1. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
P Spier Aug 14, 2013 3:54 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)Try deleting the Adobefnt*.lst files where * is a two digit number.
If that doesn't work, try clearing the font caches.

3. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
P Spier Aug 14, 2013 5:07 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)For the first you the sytem's search facility. Not sure if they're hidden, though.
To clear caches you need a utility like Cocktail. Google clear font caches and you should come up with some good stuff, including a video from David Dilling of Markzware.

TwitchOSX Aug 15, 2013 11:21 AM (in response to P Spier)Hmm, I had cocktail already. Ran the clean font cache deal. Also deleted the Adobefnt*.lst files (for the current version of InDesign.... I didn't delete the ones for the previous version)

TwitchOSX Aug 15, 2013 11:36 AM (in response to P Spier)I guess it would help if I mentioned if it helped lol. Which it did not. Maybe I have to reboot.

9. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
P Spier Aug 15, 2013 1:34 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)Remove the suitcase plugin and install the font. (that's half serious -- suitcase either works or it's a disaster). Do you have the latest updates?

10. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
TwitchOSX Aug 15, 2013 1:46 PM (in response to P Spier)I'm not seeing where to remove the suitcase plugin. And after I do that, when you say "install the font" what do you mean? Turn it on in Suitcase or Font Book or do something else. Can't I put a version of Arial into some folder in the InDesign folder that it will use?

11. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
P Spier Aug 15, 2013 1:51 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)being neither a Mac nor Suitcase user I can't tell you where it hides, but you ought to be able to find it by opeing the extension manager from the Help menu, then looking for a plugin from Extensis. There are two tabs a the bottm of the screen, so you can select the plugin, open the Advanced tab and scroll down to find the location.
You can try activating manually, or use font book.
But I've been re-reading the original post.... Do you have multiple versions of Arial installed in different locations? That could be the whole problem right there.

13. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
TwitchOSX Aug 15, 2013 2:06 PM (in response to P Spier)In the Extension Manager in InDesign, there is no Extension by Suitcase in there. It's all Adobe Systems Incorporated

14. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
P Spier Aug 15, 2013 2:32 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)The suitcase plugin should be from Extensis...
Maybe it isn't registered though Extension Manager.... Anyone lurking know?

Could this be a problem?
Yeah, I think so. I presume either Fontbook or Suitcase has the ability to look for duplicates and conflicts.

16. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
TwitchOSX Aug 15, 2013 3:09 PM (in response to P Spier)I figured as much. Suitcase is working with InDesign though. If I turn on a different font and go to InDesign, it shows up. Maybe I should remove it from Suitcase completely... not just deactivate it, and then go find a different version of arial and drop it back in Suitcase and turn it on

17. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
P Spier Aug 15, 2013 3:12 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)You only want one version of Arial, period.

18. Re: InDesign won't recognize Arial. I have it turned on via Suitcase AND Font Book!?
TwitchOSX Aug 15, 2013 3:23 PM (in response to TwitchOSX)Wow. What a pain in the *** but I think I got it. I deleted it from Suitcase and then deleted it under "User" in Font Book. I was going to delete it from the "System" in Font Book but decided against it. Normally the arial font has the Regular, Bold, Italic and Bold Italic all in one file but I found a version of Arial that was just the Regular version. Added that to Suitcase, then found a version of just Arial Bold and dropped that into the Arial folder in Suitcase. Same with Arial Italic and Arial Bold Italic. So, all 4 are in the Arial folder in Suitcase. Activated the whole folder and I'm back up with all 4 working correctly in InDesign. WEIRD!
