1. Re: Image Script subtitles are distorted and pixelated in Encore, PNGs look fine in Photoshop.
Stan Jones Aug 19, 2013 7:49 PM (in response to Creatively Bankrupt)The png is smaller than the display area defined in the file, so Encore is uprezzing it. Try a display area size that matches the png.

2. Re: Image Script subtitles are distorted and pixelated in Encore, PNGs look fine in Photoshop.
Creatively Bankrupt Aug 19, 2013 7:54 PM (in response to Stan Jones)The PNGs are all 1920x1080 and the display area reads as: (000 000 1920 1080).
Is the display area in the .txt file formatted incorrectly?

3. Re: Image Script subtitles are distorted and pixelated in Encore, PNGs look fine in Photoshop.
Stan Jones Aug 19, 2013 8:29 PM (in response to Creatively Bankrupt)Sorry; got the properties from the web image, and that was incorrect.
How are you mapping the colors?
As help notes: "As with the subpictures you create to highlight buttons, you achieve the best results by limiting image files to three colors or fewer. Use sharp edges for text and graphics, avoiding gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing."

4. Re: Image Script subtitles are distorted and pixelated in Encore, PNGs look fine in Photoshop.
Creatively Bankrupt Aug 19, 2013 8:47 PM (in response to Stan Jones)I map the colors based on the color values of the Fill (#EBEB3F) and Outline (#101010) - same colors as the PNG. The background color defaults to #000000 black so I leave it at that. I've tried other colors for the background and it just imports as a huge black frame with the yellow text still looking crusty.
Here's the two Color Mapping windows: http://creativelybankrupt.com/encore/mapping.jpg
And this is the Timeline default colorset: http://creativelybankrupt.com/encore/colorSet.jpg - I've tried with and without antialiasing based on the Fill/Stroke. Same results.
The PNG files have no aliasing and it is a solid one-color yellow with a one-color dark stroke. When imported and viewed in Encore, it is as if the stroke has been eaten away, as shown in the linked image from my original post.

5. Re: Image Script subtitles are distorted and pixelated in Encore, PNGs look fine in Photoshop.
Creatively Bankrupt Aug 21, 2013 4:28 PM (in response to Creatively Bankrupt)I ended up resolving this by paying the subtitle house to conform and re-export my SDH subtitles as an Encore-friendly .txt file.
This was not preferable as .txt has no support for vertical placement, but at least the subtitle file imports as expected.
Hopefully someone will see this thread and post a real solution if they've found one.

Stan Jones Aug 21, 2013 4:44 PM (in response to Creatively Bankrupt)Thanks for letting us know how you resolved this. I did not have time to test further. I did one of your images and got the same pixelation.

Scrublitzer Jun 26, 2014 6:47 AM (in response to Creatively Bankrupt)Hello,
I have exactly the same problem as described in this discussion. I started a thread back in 2012 which is still unsolved:
Look of image-based subtitles in Adobe Encore
Did you meanwhile find a solution to work with image-based subtitles in Encore?
Thanks,
Mark
