1. Re: lightroom 5 and jumpy sluggish mouse
ssprengel Aug 25, 2013 7:33 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Are you running out of memory? A sluggish system with a jumpy mouse are symptoms of windows having to wait to swap virtual memory with real memory.
The catalog size shouldn’t have a lot to do with it unless all the photos are in one huge folder and all loaded into the thumbnail strip and/or grid-view at the same time.
LR 5 does seem to eat memory during an export and not give it back so that could be what you’re seeing.
Does LR 5.2 RC exhibit the same problem? http://labs.adobe.com/

2. Re: lightroom 5 and jumpy sluggish mouse
Matthew A Kraus Aug 26, 2013 6:23 AM (in response to ssprengel)Thanks for reply. I have 12 GB Ram and more than enough hard drive space so I don't think memory is my problem. And in addition, sluggish mouse does not occur at other times, but only occurs when using Lightroom 5.0 at about the same time LR gets slow and unresponsive and freezes. So unless I'm wrong, this seems to be a LR problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Matthew Kraus

dj_paige Aug 26, 2013 6:39 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)Some people have these symptoms with a wireless mouse, or when other hardware devices (iPad, phone, etc.) are attached to the computer.
I agree with ssprengel, catalog size has nothing to do with this problem.

4. Re: lightroom 5 and jumpy sluggish mouse
Matthew A Kraus Aug 26, 2013 7:50 AM (in response to dj_paige)I am using the same computer setup and same mouse as I previously used with LR 3 and 4. This is a new problem that has only occured since installing and using LR 5.0. I've already had to reboot several times today. The computer works fine when not using Lightroom, but whenever I'm in LR, after a few minutes, several things happen at once. First the mouse gets jumpy, LR then becomes unreponsive, I can't even close LR, and I need to reboot.
Any other ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matthew Kraus

That may be true, but it still might be worthwhile to investigate if a wireless mouse, or attached hardware, is causing a problem. Up to you, of course.

LR 5.2 has been out almost month now... And it has still this same issue
One think that helps often in my PC is to hit Ctrl - Alt - Del to get login dialog (in Windows 7/8) and then move mouse around until the movement become smooth, then hit the esc and return back to LR.. It works again fine.
Me too had no issues until I updated to LR 5. After that... It's pretty much no-go with LR.
I have also really big lags when I click side panel collapse arrow (or just push the tabulator key).
I have tried with wired mouses, reinstalled my system from scratch, tried different graphics card, unplugged all devices, took off virus scanners etc, ...
Nothing really helps.
The LR 5 doesn't even use much memory. I have 16G and LR uses around 3G maximum. When it becomes laggy, it doesn't use even CPU more than couple of percentages.
It can be some driver/hardware compatibility issue but why LR 4.4 is so fast and responds immediately?

7. Re: lightroom 5 and jumpy sluggish mouse
juke99 Dec 30, 2013 4:09 AM (in response to juke99)I took actually a video clip showing LR 5.3 lagging all over.
I had around 70 000 pics in the catalog and only thing I did during the video clip was merge and delete keywords from the keyword list.
Freezing, screen flashing, ...
