Since applying update 11 on CF10 \ColdFusion10\cfusion\logs\coldfusion-error.log reports this error in bold:

With update 10 applied the same log file reports this way:

There is also this message frequently occurring in coldfusion-error.log since update 11

Is there a problem with update 11? Update 10 seems to perform better.

Thanks, Carl.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for the details of your log.

Does this problem arise when you try to visit the Scheduled Task page.If yes, a possible cause could be the neo-cron.xml's curroption.

Could you use a back up of this file, in case you have and reboot the server and verify.

If above case is not applicable, could you please add some information about what causes this problem to occur.

Thanks,

Anjaneai

Hi Anjaneai,

CF scheduled tasks are working and I can visit those in CFadmin OK.

When CF10 service starts it takes longer to be ready when update 11 is applied than say update 10. If I remove update 11 and apply update 10 CF10 usage returns to normal. All I have that is 100% reproducible is the  coldfusion-error log file that shows the bolded error when CF starts. I have had a look at a couple CF10 servers with update 11 applied and the error is common to all that I have checked.

Regards, Carl.

Hi Anjaneai,

CF10 with update 11 applied continue to have stability problems. If I role CF10 back to update 10 the stability and performance returns to normal.

When CF10 update 11 problems occur these details are recorded in Administration Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application :

Log Name:      Application
Source:        ColdFusion 10 Application Server
Date:          20/08/2013 4:17:50 PM
Event ID:      80
Task Category: None
Level:         Warning
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      Server.domain.local
Description:
The description for Event ID 80 from source ColdFusion 10 Application Server cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

ColdFusion 10 Application Server

Event Xml:
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
  <System>
    <Provider Name="ColdFusion 10 Application Server" />
    <EventID Qualifiers="32769">80</EventID>
    <Level>3</Level>
    <Task>0</Task>
    <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>
    <TimeCreated SystemTime="2013-08-20T06:17:50.000Z" />
    <EventRecordID>44941</EventRecordID>
    <Channel>Application</Channel>
    <Computer>Server.domain.local</Computer>
    <Security />
  </System>
  <EventData>
    <Data>
    </Data>
    <Data>ColdFusion 10 Application Server</Data>
  </EventData>
</Event>

What does "ColdFusion 10 Application Server cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted" indicate?

Further advise would be appreciated, Carl.

Hi Carl

First of all, it's an honour to reply you

Carl, did you try to rollback to update 10 and remove the logs, so that when you apply the update 11 and then check the same in fresh logs?

Though logs always have a timestamp however I believe it's worth a shot as you have tried the same. I did check the same at my end and not able to find out the same behavior.

Thanks

VJ

VJ no mate honour is mine that I get a reply : - )

One other step I did take was uninstall CF10, install CF10, check logs ok and then update 11 applied however the problem returned once updated.

Please double check for me something you said there. On your CF10 system with update 11 applied your ColdFusion10\cfusion\logs\coldfusion-error.log does not show on CF start-up:

java.lang.NullPointerException at coldfusion.etc

Thanks, Carl.

Carl,  i'm seeing this same issue on two of my clients' servers.  In each case they are running Windows 2003 32-bit.  I haven't noticed the same issue on multiple other servers all of which are running 64-bit Server 2008 or higher with 64-bit CF installed.

Did you ever find a resolution to this?  Each time they reboot their web servers CF failed to start.  If you wait a little bit and try it again a little later it comes up.  Seems like it times out initially.

What is the level in the logging.properties (C:\ColdFusion10\cfusion\runtime\conf)?

org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].level = INFO

OR

org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.[Catalina].[localhost].level = WARN

Thanks

On a side note I see CF10 update 12 has a CF10 tomcat connector change to isapi_redirect.dll dated 2 November 2013
A little odd since the technical note does not mention isapi_redirect.dll in the manifest of patches:

http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/kb/coldfusion-10-update-12.html

By way of reminder CF10 tomcat connecter for:
update 11 isapi_redirect.dll date 23 May 2013
update 10 isapi_redirect.dll date 8 November 2012

Regards, Carl.
