My new CS6 extended is not responding to mouse clicks

Hello!  I installed my newly purchased CS6 Design and Web Premium last week into my new PC.  Last week, and earlier this week, Photoshop worked fine, even though my Photoshop experience has all been with CS2.  Basic functions were still the same.

Maybe the day after, I got a screen notice that I needed to update my Photoshop, which I did, but I did not try to use Photoshop until this evening.  The application opened fine, but would not respond to mouse clicks.   The only way I could get out of Photoshop, was to use Control/Alt/Del, since Photoshop would not respond to my mouse commands.   Then I shut down the PC, rebooted, and the situation was not changed.  I opened CS6 Adobe Acrobat Pro, and that worked fine.

I then did a check via "Secunia" for updates to Photoshop.  It said there was a new update.  I downloaded the update.  Then out of the three downloaded files, I clicked on "Adobe Patch".  I got this message:  "Update Failed.  Update could not be applied.  Adobe Application Manager may be damaged.  Download and Install a new copy of Adobe Application Manager."    I did that, but even after rebooting, and re-downloading the Photoshop, I got the same error message that the "Update Failed.... Update could not be applied........"

I am running Windows 8.1 professional (trial copy).  My CPU is an Intel i3 2100 3.1GHz, with 8G of DDR3 RAM.  My graphics card is an NVIDIA GEForce GTX 660Ti.  My C drive is 1T, of which 91% is free (again, a brand new PC.)

What do I do?  I have no clue!  HELP......  Thanks, Chuck
