1. Re: Drop Shadow & Grid Pattern
Noel Carboni Aug 30, 2013 9:48 PM (in response to pennipeter)Make your drop shadow have a small "Distance" and large enough "Spread" and "Size" and it will show around all edges.
If you want to see how it will look on a white background, create a solid fill layer that's all white and move it below the photo layer in the Layers panel.

Semaphoric Aug 31, 2013 5:08 PM (in response to pennipeter)You could try using Outer Glow, with the color set to black and the blending mode set to Multiply.

4. Re: Drop Shadow & Grid Pattern
Noel Carboni Aug 31, 2013 5:27 PM (in response to pennipeter)Normally Drop Shadow with a Distance of 0 will yield an even drop shadow all the way around.
I notice that it's only lighter on the right side... Could you have not had it selected 100% when you cut out around it? Seems like the edge of the image inside the drop shadow is fuzzy on the right.
I tried cutting around your image with a Rectangular Marquee, then redoing the Drop Shadow and it came out even for me...
