I have tried every which way I have found here to reinstall Adobe Flash Player.  The latest error message is the one I started with:  (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerApp.exe:1224) could not be installed.

The download shows as installed and enabled.

My operating system is Windows 7, 64-bit; my browser is Internet Explorer, 32-bit.

So, after following the instructions on the forum page you provided, the message was the installation was successful.  Now, when I go to any of the multiple test pages, they indicate I do not have flash player installed.

My version of IE is 10.0.8, so do the instructions in thread/885448 still apply?

When I went back to the downloads I have saved for flash player, I tried installing the second of the two downloads just now.  This version: install_flash_player 11.8 r800 gave me the same error message: (C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerApp.exe:1224).  The version I used the other day, and told you went through successfully, is install_flash_player_ax 11.8 r800.

So, with Windows 7, 64-bit and IE 10.0.8, 32-bit, which version install should I use?

I am literally performing the same tasks over and over again using the information in (too) many threads and coming up with the same end result.

If you only use Internet Explorer, then you only need to install the 'ax' (ActiveX) version.

And yes, the instructions in the earlier links apply to IE10 as well (they were written before there was any IE10).

Since I tried the install_flash_player 11.8 r800 when I shouldn't have, I did another uninstall.  I then restarted my computer, checked for the files and folders in thread 885448 and restarted my computer again.  I used the download I had saved of install_flash_player_ax 11.8 r800 and received the same error message.

(C:\Windows\SysWOW64\FlashPlayerApp.exe:1224).

So, I did not even attempted to enable flash player in IE, like you previously suggested.  As I already said, I am repeating the same steps over and over again from different threads and all of them result in the same error message when I try the download.

Which earlier version of flash player would be compatiable with my system:  Windows 7, 64-bit and IE 10.0.8, 32-bit?  Or, do you have another suggestion?

Any previous Flash Player version (e.g. 11.7.700.232) should work fine on Windows 7.

But we should also try to get to the bottom of that error; can you post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in C:\Windows\syswow64\Macrome\Flash ?

My attempt to find the contents of the Flashinstall log file failed.  Would you send instructions on where to find this file?

It's in C:\Windows\syswow64\Macrome\Flash

Note that depending on your Explorer settings the .log suffix may not show.

When I search programs and files for C:\Windows\syswow64\Macrome\Flash, the search comes up "No items match your search."

Sorry, a typo crept in; the correct folder is C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash

But don't search, use Windows Explorer to go there directly.

The file shows as FlashInstall on your screenshot.  Open it with Notepad by double-clicking on it, then copy all its contents and post it back here in the forum.

The error we're seeing here is stating that the Flash Player Settings Manager in the control panel is open or in use.  Since it's doubtful that it's actually open and visible, I suspect some other file/process has it partially locked and that is marking it "in use".

Can you try the steps outlined in this post and see if that helps work around the problem?

Thanks,

Chris

Do I have to go through the 'kill process' as described in the SuzyQ post?  Or, do I find and delete the "Macromed" folder like in Bob's Windows\system32 folder?  Do I have to download, etc. Microsoft's Process Explorer for either, or both of these options?

You don't need Process Explorer, although it can be a useful tool.  Windows Task Manager (Processes tab) will do.  Try this

After following the instructions above, I ran the ActiveX installer which completed successfully.  I went to Adobe's website to test my computer for Flash Player; my computer does not show the video, etc.  Shockwave Flash Object is enabled under Manage AddOns.  Now what?

No, I do not have ActiveX Filtering enabled.  (That answer is assuming I would be looking for this in Manage AddOns, like Shockwave Flash Object.

Yes; you need to disable it, otherwise it will block the Flash Player ActiveX control.
