Flash Player Install Problem

Anyone have any ideas for me?  I can't get Flash Player to install on my wife's work computer.  It gets 52% through the install and stops with a message reading, "General installation error".  When I try to uninstall per the FAQ it tells me that Flash Player Settings Manager is running and stops the uninstall.  Running Windows XP with IE8.

Any help is much appreciated!

Download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by right clicking one (or both) of the following links and selecting "Save target as"(IE) or "Save link as"(other browsers).

Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)

Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

Save the file(s) to your downloads fodler.

Reboot.

Before running anything else, open the downloads folder and run the installer(s).
