Safari - Preferences>Security - is "Allow all other plugins" checked?
Firefox - Tools>Add-ons>Plugins - Is Shockwave Flash (11.8.800.94) enabled and "Always Activated"?

Thanks for the reply. Yes Safari has both 'Allow Java' and 'allow other plug-ins' slected. Firefox has Flash enabled as well. It looks like a few other apps that use Flash on my computer are effected as well not just the browsers. Chrome is the only app that has flash working properly...

Chrome has its own Flash Player Plugin so it works independently of the others.
Go to [User]/Library/Preferences (Hold the "Option" key when clicking "Go" from the Finder menu to access YOUR Library folder.
Trash the Macromedia folder in the Preferences, and empty the trash.
Relaunch either browser and try running a Flash video.

Trahed the Macromedia folder in the Preferences, and emptied the trash. Still no Flash in Safari or Firefox...

I have un-installed, trashed prefernces, re-installed, gone through every step in the adobe troubleshooting section... and still Flash is not working on my Mac. I am at a complette loss. A couple of weeks ago flash never had an issue on my computer... why now? What shall I do next? Many thanks, Hugo

Try it under another user account. Create a new one (admin) and see how it performs. That's the quickest way to tell if there are permissions problems on your account.

Thanks for the reply C F McBob. Tried the new admin account... however I still get the same problems with that one as well. I do a weekly permissions repair using Cocktail, I also repair permissions after installing new software. Any other suggestions. Your assitance is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Hugo

Longshot, but have you tried resetting your PRAM?

Reset the PRAM... however I still have this issue. I also used Disk Warrior to repair my system disc... that didn't help either...

Trash com.apple.Safari.plist, org.mozilla.Firefox.plist, and org.mozilla.plugincontainer.plist
Empty the trash and relaunch either or both browsers.

That didn't work sorry. It is not just the browsers that are have problems with Flash. Tweetdeck won't play Flash movies and Freeway crashes on startup... both use a Flash plug-in.

Well, I've run plumb out of stuff to try. I've even been scouring the Apple forums for other options, and nothing.

Thanks for trying. Really appreciated you taking the time! Is there a way to get hold of someone from Adobe support? All support roads for Flash Player seem to end here at this forum.... I can't find any adobe support forms. - Hugo

@huggieT - What files with the name "flash" do you have in your /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder? What's the date, size, and version of these files?
Can you post the contents of your "Installed Plugins" page in Firefox (navigate to "about:plugins" in Firefox's address bar.)
Thanks,
Chris

Know what I see that's bad news?
Flip4Mac.
That's a relic from the PPC days when Windows Media Player actually had a Mac version. It's unnecessary these days and it can screw things up more than it helps.
ANY files it can play, VLC Media Player can, and it won't mess with video playback in browsers or QuickTime.
Same can be said for RealPlayer.
Like Flip4Mac, I haven't used it since the PPC days - VLC does EVERYTHING RealPlayer does, with half the software.
If you use RealPlayer for FLV downloads, you can do that with AntVideoDownloader (A Firefox Plugin - about 1.7Mb vs 20+ for RealPlayer)

Thanks for posting that. Are you having problems with any of the other browser plugins (QuickTime, etc?) Does the Flash Player preference panel load if you select it in System Preferences? Does the Flash Player Version (http://adobe.ly/wNzNAu) page also fail to load?
