I tried to install the update and keep getting vague error messages.  I follow all the directions and advice, no luck.  I even ran the uninstaller, restarted and tried again.

Did you see: How to perform a "clean install" of Flash Player in Mac OS X

I wrote that set of instructions, and they work in all but the most bizarre of setups.

Thanks, that seems to be working.  It's just weird that it's different than the default way it tries to update it.

There can be any number of things that cause the "normal" updater to malfunction. Most common is (I assume with Windows-Mac converts)  antivirus or 3rd party firewall software installed, neither of which are necessary, because there are no viruses for Mac OS and OS X has it's own firewall which is quite effective when enabled.
