1. Re: Question about PDF usage within InDesign
Eugene Tyson Sep 26, 2013 1:59 AM (in response to Sproketzz)Really no need to involve indesign.
If the PDF has layers in it - you can turn the layers on and off in Adobe Acrobat Professional
If you don't have Acrobat it's worth getting.
If you have InDesign - you can http://help.adobe.com/en_US/indesign/cs/using/WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6bdea.h tml#WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751001ea8cb3f-6bd7a
File>Place You might need to click Show Options before selecting the PDF
Then you can choose what layers you want visible.
If the text in the PDF is vector - that is it hasn't been rasterised - then it's fully scalable - so are all vector graphics.
Raster images will reduce in quality the larger you make them - and they will increase in quality if you reduce the size of the image.

2. Re: Question about PDF usage within InDesign
sandeecohen Sep 26, 2013 4:49 AM (in response to Sproketzz)And to add to Eugene's comments, you can right-mouse click on a vector graphic in Acrobat and choose Edit. The graphic will open in Illustrator! You can then save it as its own vector logo file.
One thing you won't get from the PDF are the layers in Photoshop files. Those graphics are flattened and may also have some JPEG compression applied.
BTW, this sounds like an example of the in-house department trying to exert its power over you. Talk to the people who hired you. You need the correct files.
And come back to this forum any time you need help with InDesign.

You defintely need the right files but this could just be a case of ignorance. Way too many people out there that where blinders when it comes to this stuff. They know what they know and think it's the only thing out there.
