Flash Player Installation

For class, I had to download a textbook and the program stated that my flash player was inadequate and I should download a new one. I went to Adobe and downloaded the only version for Mac, Flash Player 11. Box kept popping up saying that the installation quit unexpectedly and that nothing else was affected. After looking on here for troubleshooting, it was recommended to uninstall any previous Flash Players, which I did. Problem still persists without any suggestion for a solution. I now have no flash player and can hardly do anything. Any help would be appreciated.
