Chris Cox Oct 16, 2013 10:38 PM (in response to naturesbestside)That's an OS utility, it has nothing to do with Photoshop.
It's also misleading if you try to use it with color managed applications.

Your answer doesn't seem to correlate to my question.
I open the application in the OS utilities to assist in color management but found out that it also supplies x and y coordinates under my cursor. Where has this feature disappeared to?
That's my question.
Thanx,
Jim.....

You're talking about an OS utility - which changes at Apple's whim.
And that utility misleads on color mangement, because it only sees pixel values on the display, not in the document - so it is useless on color managed applications.

DigitalColor Meter is an Apple utility that's installed with OS X, so this forum really isn't the best place to ask questions about it. However, I just played with it for a minute and I think I have your answer.
In DigitalColor Meter, choose View > Show Mouse Location. This displays the X and Y coordinates.
Why did it change? The upgrade to Mountain Lion probably didn't preserve your settings from the older version. Again, any changes to the behavior of DigitalColor Meter were all caused by Apple and affected an Apple-provided utility, so the Apple Discussion Forums are probably the best place if you need to know more about it.

Thanx for setting me straight. I should have taken this to an Apple Forum.
Your comment regarding the OS utility mislead with color management..... thanx for pointing this out to me.

Coming back to this late (sorry), can I assume then that this utility is useless for the task this person says he's using it for?
When was the last time you checked the color of your monitor for accuracy? Checking your monitor helps you to know if the colors display accurately and Mac has a built in color meter! As seen on Creative Live, Will Crockett shows you how to check your monitor using the built in Digital Color Meter application in your Mac. Get your Mac ready to follow along as you are taken step by step on how to check your monitor for color accuracy using the built in color meter!
I can't see how this utility has any ability to aid here or 'understand' what's emitted from the display. There's also this disconnect I don't understand. See the following, it's an sRGB doc set for R0/G255/B0, Photoshop as Chis reports shows the correct values. The DigitalColor Meter shows very, very odd values.
