I have not seen this happen myself, but I'm on Windows.
Is there any chance the document is small enough, with a single layer, that the save is completed before there's even time to display a progress bar?
Is it a new document that's being saved for the first time, or is it a document that you've been working on for a while?
Where are you saving it, exactly? Does the problem occur more often with certain locations, such as saving to a network server?

Hi Noel,
This has happened saving large documents, it's not that it saves so fast that I don't notice. I noticed because I'd open a file that I had retouched already and I'd be baffled that it was back to the original state. Then a friend of mine commented saying that "make sure you see the progress bar because this bug on CC is making it not save the file when you press Cmnd+S, not ask you to save and let you close the file and loose your work". And that's exactly what happened to me 3 or 4 times. This was saving Tiff files with layers to the local disk (no server) I'm not sure if it's because I updated to 14.1.2 or if it's because I've been working with PSDs on the last week, I haven't noticed it happen anymore.

One other (mostly random) thought crossed my mind... Is there any chance you ran a 3rd party plug-in while a save is occurring in the background?

Could this be a permission problem? That is the usual outcome. Try a test to the same file/subfile and see if it works.

Noel, no, no 3rd party plugins installed.
Curt, I try to save the file and it doesn't give me any error message or anything. If I wouldn't pay attention to the status bar I'd think the file was saved. Now when I see that the file is not saved (doesn't matter how many times I press Cmnd+S), if I change something (add a layer, paint something or just turn a layer on and off) and try saving again it works fine. That's what's more scary, it doesn't tell me something is wrong and it lets me loose all the work.

A permission problem can show this behavior. Run your apple disk check utiltiy.

I've run into this problem before as well. No permissions issue or anything like that. Going to Photoshop Preferences / File Handling and unchecking "Background Save" should do the trick. At least that has worked 100% for us - so far no lost work...

I'm having the same issue and I've lost work. I tried saving my current file and I got a "can't save" message, I tried save as and I got a "the file is currently saving in the background" message. Photoshop displayed a non-moving 0% progress. I tried quitting and again I got the "the file is currently saving in the background". I had to end by force quitting photoshop and now the original file is corrupt and I get "The application Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 can't be opened" when I try to open the file despite the fact that photoshop is already open!

This just happened to me. I had 14 PSDs open (way too many, I know..), so I thought that might have caused it.
I edited my first image, Cmd-S'ed and went to the next. When I Cmd-S'ed this one, I noticed the first was still stuck at 0% progress. This created a queue and neither saved. Eventually it crashed, not saving either of the edits. Thankfully, my files were not corrupted and I only lost an hour of work. The files open and save as normal now that I open them one at a time (if that is what caused it in the first place).
This is the first time this has happened to me, let's see how it goes in the future.
