SmartGraphicArt Oct 23, 2013 8:24 AM (in response to OldBob1957)Google was my first option. That's whay I'm posting here. I've tried several of the free and online ones. They are pretty bad. The Larson one would work, but is pro grade softwre and it is big bucks. It's quite aggravating trying to find a good solution to this.

It is fully legal to buy an old version (set) second hand, if it has not been used as the basis for an upgrade, and if the licence transfer is done through Adobe.

5. Re: Need Illustrator 8 or 10
SmartGraphicArt Oct 31, 2013 4:58 AM (in response to SmartGraphicArt)Well, I found a copy of Illustrator 10 for 30 bucks at a PC gamer site. I have no choice but using a PC running Windows 7 at work, so I ended up having to install it using Windows XP compatability mode. Had to change all of my screen settings to the basic setup and every time I open AI 10 it hijacks all of my file preferences, so now whenever I click to open a file, it opens in 10 instead of CC. I can keep setting the preferences back to CC, but it changes again everytime I go into AI 10. It's exasperating to say the least.
I can now export .cgm files, but I have to backsave all of my work from CC to AI 10, then reopen everything and export from 10. It's a pain in the butt just to have a workaround, but at least it gets me the end result I need. Glad they're paying me by the hour.

Jacob Bugge Oct 31, 2013 6:43 AM (in response to SmartGraphicArt)SmartGraphicArt,
The requirements mentioned in post #4 apply if your AI10 is to be legal, both the lack of use for any upgrade, and the licence trasnfer through Adobe.

SmartGraphicArt Oct 31, 2013 7:05 AM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Upgrade? You're kidding, right? Why would I want or need to upgrade Illustrator 10? As if any upgrades would be forthcoming from Adobe on something that hasn't been supported for years. As I said originally, I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber and ONLY need the fossil version to create .cgm files, which nobody else in the world has had a use for since Reagan was president. But thanks for the information, again.

Why would I want or need to upgrade Illustrator 10?
The crucial question is whether the seller has used that AI10 as the basis for an upgrade. If that is the case, it is illegal to sell it. I believe that is part of the reason for the licence transfer.
