able123 Oct 25, 2013 12:27 PM (in response to able123)I got the same timing as you.. 60 secs.. just looking at the storyboards... so lets go with it the way it is... and we are done with it ! how cool is that ??
Just add the last frames of people saying stuff about show at the end of your storyboard and its done..
I'll see if I can get all the settings correct for setting up ftp for you to use the domain name ...and send email with them..

boy, what a drag.... I lost my dreamweaver Id when I moved ( the old macromedia program before adobe bought it )...
what used to be real easy to just change my web pages in a real basic way is now GONE...
cause I installed win 7 over xp and lost all the xp stuff
oh well, at least its beer thirty ...
I did manage to buy this stupid domain and add it to my server.. so thats a nice thing... but I personally cant do much with it...

able123 Oct 25, 2013 1:39 PM (in response to able123)if anyone wants to put place holders or temporary messages on the web domain ... those involved with the project.... now would be a good time to do that..
It could be a simple message.. such as " under contruction " ? Something that actually WORKS when the link is clicked on...

203. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
Fuzzy Barsik Oct 25, 2013 2:00 PM (in response to able123)so lets go with it the way it is... and we are done with it !
Since it is clearer for you now, can we get back to planning and particularly to that hateful 'work breakdown structure' (WBS)? I see you uploaded your copy of the file to Dropbox. So, please, try to think what needs to be done and how long might it take. If you experience some difficulties, just articulate what those difficulties are.
Tomorrow I'll be out for the whole day. Can check updates in the morning and then leave. As either a bonus or a headache you can come up with a third storyboard. Personally, I don't much like the transition from frying eggs to alien solar system. Hence, you have around 8 hours to invent something probably completely new. But then, please, return to WBS.
if anyone wants to put place holders or temporary messages on the web domain ... those involved with the project.... now would be a good time to do that..
When we officially approve our product primary item storyboard (OK, let's do it tomorrow in the hope we get some more choices because of your and Steven's additional contribution by 06:00 GMT), we can draw a bit more pleasant sketches, import them into PrPro, create rough cuts, export the movie, upload it to YouTube and use the link in test HTML5 player I'm working on.

204. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 25, 2013 2:48 PM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)I kinda liked the eggs cooking cause it made me hungry and is familiar.. I eat eggs every other day or so. And I like the chicken stuff cause you can't make movies without chickens...and I have ate probably about 4000 tons of chicken on movies in my life... just to get through the work days.
If it wasn't for chickens ( IMO ) no movies could ever get made.
but that includes the eggs they lay...hence the saying " what came first the chicken or the egg ? depends on your call time ! "
Anyway, it beats pizza and chinese food ...IMO.
At one point the union in NYC had to actually tell producers that PIZZA did NOT constitute a MEAL... when we broke for the half hour of chow...I think it's probably in the contract now. " pizza does not constitue a meal, but chicken or eggs does ".
I have no clue what is going on now cause I just spent the last hour trying to change my new cell phone number so total strangers don't keep calling me asking if I am DANIEL who apparently had my phone number before me... and left town without paying a lot of debts. Not only THAT but she apparently went to a massage parlor ( they keep calling to get me to come for a massage ). Not only THAT but she apparently went to every single night club in the Twin Cities.. and all those clubs call me to invite me to their friday night parties. These come as messages and robo calls. My phone time is half of what I had when I bought this phone a month ago...and I have made about 3 phone calls.
400 minutes is now about 150 minutes...due to Danielle's social life ... I HATE HER !
So I think I changed my phone number with 'tracphone' people ....and will now see who owned THIS freaking number before they passed it on to me.
I will revisit your post about whats up in a little while.. when I calm down from HATING tracphone and modern technology that makes me a slave to this stupid crap.

able123 Oct 25, 2013 2:54 PM (in response to able123)Im not going to put the storyboard into prPro.. are you ??? what do you mean by that ?? the storyboard is just a stupid outline of that shots.. the scenes.. you put the storyboard on an easel in the studio or stage and every time you finish one of those little squares.. you use a magic marker and put a giant line through that frame.. DONE.
I dont wanna put that in PPro.. its just paper...or poster size ( like mostly its done on showcard )
WE are the ones who know whats up cause its in our HEADS... all the other **** is just so others can be on board...
to make it happen...

able123 Oct 25, 2013 2:58 PM (in response to able123)Look.. the bottom line is making the product. I know this experiment is about collaboration and tools and so on. but really.. the bottom line is making the product.. in our case it is the primary product.. so lets keep things in perspective.
When I got hired to work on stuff I didn't do anything but MAKE IT HAPPEN.. I didn't need to be a big shot about influencing other people or care two hoots about who was the actor or whatever.. it is about making the product.. and thats that ... simple...
The trick is to MAKE IT !!!!! all the other **** is ********...
grrr
okay, time to relax.. I'm not used to this stuff being so ethereal ...

able123 Oct 25, 2013 3:09 PM (in response to able123)right..
so i see a storyboard or read the sides for the days call sheet..
i see a chicken in storyboard.. the actor is a chicken to me.
i see an egg, the actor is an egg to me
I see a human actor ( the most famous in the world to you ) is see an actor..
the chicken egg actor have to hit their marks, we block it , we shoot it , scene by scene.. its a business.. it is a lot of work.
if the actor is a hamburger, it is home ec people and props and lighting and table top and tight shots with subtle moves.. and trust me ..10 secs on screen can take WEEK to make that happen...
this is not some ******** kid ****... when you get pro about it.. so lets get real...lets do the best we can and stop this ******** about time limits where we are stuck in a rut... lets work together, do the best we can.. and make it happen...
you got web stuff ? now you got a domain to put it on.. and the ftp info...
nobody else knows its there.. its only US that knows that dot com site... lets work with it.....we got a drop box.. lets use it...
half the battle of this whole idea is to work with strangers across the world.. lets do it .. you warthog !
hehe.. that was ajoke

208. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
Fuzzy Barsik Oct 26, 2013 12:53 AM (in response to able123)Im not going to put the storyboard into prPro.. are you ??? what do you mean by that ??
Yes, I am. I mean sketches can serve as placeholders. It doesn't take long to create them. Movie draft out of sketches will give a better understanding of what we are doing with no needs to waste some time on designing a stupid 'Under Construction' placeholder for the website.
so lets get real...lets do the best we can and stop this ******** about time limits where we are stuck in a rut... lets work together, do the best we can.. and make it happen...
I'll try to explain: it's impossible to make something happen without knowing what should be done to make it happen, by which time and in which order. Can we shoot something first and then try to create a story out of what have been shot? Probably yes. But how much time will it take to create something interesting out of footages, which were taken occasionally, without any plan in mind? Isn't it more efficient to come up with a storyboard first and then shoot what is defined by storyboard? Doesn't that mean we'd rather plan our activity in the latter order?
Then let's imagine we have to release our movie by 1 November. The story we invented assumes shooting a chicken. We found out that we can't start shooting a chicken before 8 November because e.g. we all lives in cities, where there are no chickens around, but one of us is about to visit a friend in a village from 7 to 9 of November. So, can we actually get some nice chicken shots we need for our story? Definitely, yes. However, does that mean we will be able to release our movie by 1 November? I don't think so.
Does it sound rational we have to either reinvent our story, rearrange the friend visit or quickly find another opportunity to shoot a chicken? Will an opportunity to get a hand from some cameraman, who can start shooting a chiken on 28 October help us? What if he needs 2 days to shoot and 2 days to deliver source footages to us?
So, does that all sound simple enough? If yes, what exactly drives you nut or makes your head explode?
You can't embrace the whole project at once? OK, let's subdivide it into some more simpler parts and start from elaborating a plan for just one part and see how it goes.
Formal terms or Excel? OK, forget about formal terms and Excel for a moment, take a piece of paper and a pen or a pencil and outline what we need to get shots of chicken, eggs, spaceship, pilot, people in a theatre etc. and how much time might it take.

209. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 26, 2013 1:44 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)I would feel okay I think if we continue working on the items as per the revised XL thing I put in dropbox.. it eliminated the talk show I think ? It changed some things anyway...and is more realistic for me at least to get my head around the whole thing ...
the back story ( THE EGG ) is making this more complex than a simple hamburger commercial ...and that's why I brought up the subject of whats no the website... cause we didnt have the whole back story down when content for that website was concluded. I dont want to change whats going on the website.. but for menu sake if we add anything later it might be good to think of it now ??
I do have the problem of finding chickens to shoot , and even shooting food shots would be tough to do ( small kitchen ). I kinda think maybe other people could do this more easily and dont know who they might be ...other than Steve doing people on green screen for those shots... I guess that's part of whats driving me nuts is not knowing who can do what.
I can do the article and would enjoy doing that...
I can shoot eggs ( whole eggs ). It's getting cold here now and famers have pretty much harvested everything and chickens are inside their chicken houses. I dont know anyone personally in this new town I moved to which makes it difficult re: shooting people etc.

able123 Oct 26, 2013 8:27 AM (in response to able123)this is some stuff on the server where the domain loungeproductionpresents dot com resides.. in case there is something useful for you to see.
email accounts of course can be setup using that domain as well...
Fuzzy, if you can upload to the website using the FTP settings I gave you let me know. That would mean IMO that the portion of project to find host for website would be complete right ?? We can then note that on the XL file ???
Fuzzy, Steve, if you want FTP site(s) at that domain let me know...In other words, separate FTP accounts ( sites ) can be made at that domain.. that have nothing to do with the website pages -- In a sense that could be used like dropbox etc...

its a bit whacky...luckily Fuzzy, you did the XL stuff...
The past due task of choosing tools is done... we have dropbox, XL docs, email, forum thread, and now can have FTP at new web domain ( can have separate ftp accounts to share files if needed )...I marked that task as complete and now I dont even see it listed .. woulda been nice to just see " completed tasks " so as to keep the original list intact..

213. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 26, 2013 9:34 AM (in response to able123)Fuzzy, in your storyboard we see a spaceship crashing into earth...
I was thinking the spaceships from main EGG ship would fly around and land on earth... where ONE of those lands and gets trapped...and is in good shape and is discovered ....along with the pryamid thing...( with egg shape inside the pyramid ).
The spaceship ( intact ) and stuff is in a giant CAVERN discovered by mining explorations...
If we use the back story that way or not it effects the " article" to be written about our movie and the overall message of the movie. Sooo, is your spaceship crashing into earth or is it landing ?

able123 Oct 26, 2013 10:12 AM (in response to able123)Now I'm on a quest to find some simple web site building program.. since my dreamweaver is a dead duck..
So I checked out what the inMotionHosting ( server I use ) has to offer and stumbled on these things... just as a sorta heads up in case of future interest in collaborative open source stuff.. I'm not going to install this stuff but it is available at that host when you use them as your server.

Fuzzy Barsik Oct 26, 2013 11:10 AM (in response to able123)I would feel okay I think if we continue working on the items as per the revised XL thing I put in dropbox.. it eliminated the talk show I think ? It changed some things anyway...and is more realistic for me at least to get my head around the whole thing ...
OK, let's check what we can see in this updated file:
Movie, The
- 'Invent the Story' task: no changes, just a comment about brainstorming under way was added;
- 'Create a Storyboard' task: added estimation for 'Draw sketches' subtask (72 hours), a comment that the storyboard would be completed in time and comments that neither takes, nor rough cuts are needed;
NB: We must clarify and agree on Glossary of used terms. By 'takes' I mean 'a single continuously-recorded performance, shot or version of a scene with a particular camera setup'. That assumes it's impossible to create a storyboard without decision on takes.
- 'Shoot Scenes' task: no changes, no comments;
- 'Edit Movie' task: no changes, no comments.
Official Trailer
No changes, no comments, no subtask created.
Behind the Scene Movie
No changes, no comments, no subtasks created.
Talk Show Appearance
No changes, no comments, no subtasks created.
Dedicated Website
- 'Create website design' task: no changes, no comment;
- 'Develop website animation' task: no changes, no comment;
- 'Publish website' task: no changes, added comment 'Yes' to 'Choose website hosting' subtask.
Poster
No subtasks created, added estimation (96 hours) and comment 'Graphic For Video Use and Web ..no 300dpi Print'.
NB: In my view we need to clarify what should be included in poster(s). E.g. you mentioned somewhere a specially designed font. Does the 96 hours estimation include designing that font?
Print Ads
No subtasks created, added comment 'No print ad'.
NB: Does that mean you propose not to work on print ads or just not to print them?
Article
No subtasks created, added estimation (72 hours) and comment 'Yes'.
NB: If you take full responsibility for this secondary item of the Product, I'm OK without further clarification about what you need for it.
Report on Collaborative Tools
No changes, no comments, no subtasks created.
New 'Collect Graphics, Images, Maps, Text for Content' Item
No subtasks created, added estimation (2 weeks).
NB: What does this item represent? It doesn't look like an independent item in our Product. If you need to collect some graphics, you probably want to use those elements in 'Movie, The', 'Official Trailer', 'Behind the Scene Movie' etc., which means respective tasks or subtasks should be created there.
To sum up: not enough information to estimate whether we will be able to release at least our primary item in time. No worries. Let me explain what we need to do so as to be able to estimate and take further decisions. I will use an example with the website.
Since I declared at the beginning of the thread that I want to improve my skills in HTML5 etc., I assumed I would be palying significant part in the website development. So as to plan my activity I started from a top level and defined three general tasks I have to accomplish so as to deliver the website: 'Create website design', 'Develop website animation' and 'Publish website' (actually any task can be resolved in three steps like 1. Open the fridge, 2. Place giraffe there, 3. Close the fridge). Then I divided each task into subtasks so as to clarify what exactly needs to be done at every step and roughly estimated time required for subtasks completion. If someone else wanted to participate in developing website, we would might need to redefine subtasks and re-estimate required time.
Then I converted the list of subtasks with time estimation into visual representation, Gantt Chart:
This chart helps me monitor my progress and manage my schedule. If you were not familiar with this tool so far, you can think of it as of e.g. PrPro timeline: subtasks are clips, tasks are nested sequences, they all have duration, the duration of a nested sequence (a task) includes total duration of all clips (subtasks) in it, you can probably shorten or stretch their duration or move along the timeline if necessary.
Good project management applications allow set task dependencies so as to indicate that e.g. this or that particular task can't be started or finished until another task is complete.
Hope utilising Gantt Chart tool, which visually represents a plan schedule, will help you as well.
that's why I brought up the subject of whats no the website... cause we didnt have the whole back story down when content for that website was concluded.
And the only reason for probable website content redefinition was your desire to completely redefine the primary item of the Product, because at the beginning the primary item was defined as a movie (even though in 60 second commercial format), not a commercial, which promotes something else. Previously approved definition of the primary item of the Product was taken into account while I was suggesting the website concept. Now we have some more issues than you describe: for example, I have no the slightest idea what could constitute an official trailer for the commercial, which promotes another movie.
I do have the problem of finding chickens to shoot , and even shooting food shots would be tough to do ( small kitchen ).
That means we should imagine and discuss a couple of other storyboard versions. The sooner, the better.
Fuzzy, in your storyboard we see a spaceship crashing into earth...
I was thinking the spaceships from main EGG ship would fly around and land on earth...
But in updates I was so kind to redefine it as 'landing', just didn't redraw the sketch.
the zoho thing appears to be getting corrupted ( screwed up ) when changing the status of tasks to mark them complete...
The past due task of choosing tools is done... we have dropbox, XL docs, email, forum thread, and now can have FTP at new web domain ( can have separate ftp accounts to share files if needed )...No needs to hurry mark tasks as 'complete', it might appear they are not (not to mention I'm not very excited about ZOHO per se).
Fuzzy, if you can upload to the website using the FTP settings I gave you let me know.
This is me letting you know. I uploaded .html and .js files yesterday, but then found out you had deleted them and replaced with your own index.html file.
fuzzy, do you have a 300dpi version of your storyboard you can put in dropbox ?? I put my 300dpi version up there just now...
This way I can print the storyboard, cut out the frames and scotch tape into new storyboard, etc...
First and foremost, why do you necessarily want to print it? Why can PrPro timeline not substitute the hard copy?
Second, we seems need another storyboard, 'cos we can't get some takes, which in turn ruins the story.

216. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 26, 2013 11:49 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)I am horrible at contriibuting to the scheduling and breakdown of tasks etc... If it's okay with you I'll just do my best to know whats going on but I suck at dividing things into subtopics and assigning time limits to them etc....
I like what you are doing with the scheduling and breakdown and like the XL files for doing that. Zoho seems a bit lame.
The website is YOURS ...and I'm sorry I deleted that index and js file. That was dumb. I am going to assume that the webite domain is acceptable for you as a host ?
So that part of our project is finished ?
There is a way to set up FTP sites via that server if anyone needs or wants them.
So.. .as of right now , is that website domain acceptable as the place for the website you are building ?
=================
I work differently with storyboards.. I do it physically with paper and cut out things and re arrange them visually as needed as it is developed....but I can do my own drawings of your chicken, hand with egg etc... so you dont need to provide a 300dpi version.
===============
I'm not going to get into a discussion about story and story board vs. what can really get shot by us or others...You make what you want as storyboard, I make what I want, and we mix them and match them to finish the story .
yes, things changed from movie to commercial and it is a commercial selling a product which is ANOTHER story ....if this is too complex lets do something else. I personally have worked on a gazillion commercials for chicken, cereal, hamburgers and so on.. and have no desire to do that ....but I really just want to move on with this thing now and stop talking about basic stuff... thats just me.. I'm not good at being an organizer and get very impatient sometimes.. it's just my personality etc.
So once and for all...is it acceptable to just do the commercial to sell the egg documentary ???? I dont want to change it but if you do, let me know now.
===================
The back story ( the egg documentary ) is the product we are selling with your primary product ( commercial ).
If this is fine with everyone.. then other items can be worked on as well....like an interview maybe, an article, a poster and so on....
So now I need to know once and for all.. is the commercial we make going to be a promotion of THE EGG documentary.
===================
I know things have changed and we are still brainstorming and working out a lot of stuff.. but I suppose that is part of this process of collaborating...
Lets focus on what is real for now and not what happened in the past... lets keep moving forward...okay ??? You do the website stuff. I wont touch that . The domain is yours.
so that means hunting for a host ... that part is finished right ?
I'll get my own new version of the storyboard to you by tonight...
Just as a side note... I get ideas and my own sorta 'brainstorms' at different times and dont do this professionally... where I have to produce for an agency or something... so those ideas come at weird times... I hope you'll be patient with me about that , cause it is one of my shortcomings...

217. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 26, 2013 1:19 PM (in response to able123)Just as a "pretend " thing... assuming I am at this moment in my imagination sticking with my original storyboard segment....( see above somewhere )....
That is, we see text on screen then images.. fast pace, crashing reverb noise, etc etc...
We put this between the frame where the egg enters picture of earth ( requires shooting an egg...and compositing with earth )...easy.. can do move with camera so egg moves up and down etc....then composite )... ( side note.. would be nice to have a metalic surface on egg like a spaceship )...and the people coming out of theatre.. and then the last frame " in theatre near you" is the last frame ( with some text re: " a ( make up director name ) film " ....

218. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
Fuzzy Barsik Oct 26, 2013 1:30 PM (in response to able123)yes, things changed from movie to commercial and it is a commercial selling a product which is ANOTHER story ....if this is too complex lets do something else.
So once and for all...is it acceptable to just do the commercial to sell the egg documentary ???? I dont want to change it but if you do, let me know now.
No, this is not too complex. This simply mean we have to completely redefine all items in our Product. In other words, if you take a decision, move on building on it and change your mind later, you should expect something like this:
And this is me letting you know. Wee have to take CONSCIOUS DECISION and either redefine our Product, which means redefining ALL its items (that doesn't mean it's too hard though), or keep working on a movie in a commercial format as our primary item in the Product, not a commercial that sells a movie.
In the latter case we don't need to knock down what you invented so far, rather build on it (not to mention you don't want to shoot food as was proposed in my version of the storyboard). We have your story. We need to tell it within 60 second or maybe a bit longer time span. Check the Dropbox, I created the '! BENCHMARK' folder and dropped a sample of a full story as 90 second commercial into it.
I am horrible at contriibuting to the scheduling and breakdown of tasks etc... If it's okay with you I'll just do my best to know whats going on but I suck at dividing things into subtopics and assigning time limits to them etc...
Stand up and fight, you, warthog! You CAN do that, trust me! I'm here to support and assist you.

When you explained what drives you nut, I started realising that it's difficult to you to accommodate the whole project with all its uncertainties in your head right now and you feel stuck because of that. No worries, we'll accomplish a simple step TOGETHER, then you should feel yourself more confident with that job.
The website is YOURS ...and I'm sorry I deleted that index and js file.
No worries, I will reupload them when we finish with a storyboard.
so that means hunting for a host ... that part is finished right ?
I'm fine with the http://loungeproductionpresents.com/ domain.
I work differently with storyboards.. I do it physically with paper and cut out things and re arrange them visually as needed as it is developed....but I can do my own drawings of your chicken, hand with egg etc... so you dont need to provide a 300dpi version.
OK, granted, do it in your way. I will share full res sketches when we finish with a storyboard.
I'm not going to get into a discussion about story and story board vs. what can really get shot by us or others...You make what you want as storyboard, I make what I want, and we mix them and match them to finish the story.
Sorry, but this one is not acceptable. We need to know what we can shoot with our ongoing resources BEFORE we spend (actually waste) a lot of time working on other things and find out we simply can't finish because no one can do this or that. And so as to know, we need to discuss whether we can shoot this or that take or not. But prior to this we have to come up with several storyboard choices.
I know things have changed and we are still brainstorming and working out a lot of stuff.. but I suppose that is part of this process of collaborating...
Yes, things can change and that is normal. Good planning ensures smaller risks because of change.

219. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 26, 2013 1:32 PM (in response to able123)Now for the inevitable 'background ' story and justifications......sigh.. please bear with me...
the primary product is a commercial selling a fictional movie ( docu drama , based on real stuff ..namely the discovery of flying saucer etc ).
We dont HAVE clips from the movie...so we cant use them ...so we do the next best thing...we use PRETEND stuff to illustrate the discovery and the subsequent effect on people... We are pretending that a flying saucer was discovered.. it shook up the world, and now someone made a movie about it....and we are SELLING that movie.
Most of the text on this 2nd story board can be put on screen fast ...instead of a voice over....as the voice over would have to be REALLY PROFESSIONAL to do this right...
Instead of using VO we put text up and its fast pace..and we just use spacey music etc ....whatever we can do to keep the pace going...sound fx, music, etc...
it could be that the crashing noise mentioned in the first storyboard idea continues in some way.. for continuity sake...
Anyway, moving on...
The entire commercial is now defined as a commercial selling a fictional movie...
We have the background story ....
I can make a flying saucer that looks sorta decent ( and pyramid and egg in the pyramid ) if I have the time ... using photoshop...
I made this image below using photoshop and paths and basically just painting the thing...and the high res version looked good....
or else if someone has 3d program it can be made in that program.. I just lost maya and raydream designer... so that is not an option for me now...

that is something you already know about as do I.... theres nothing to talk about . People either get this and know it , or they dont... theres nothing to talk about at the level we are at with no budget etc... at least not for this project.
the subject is HUGE and has a lot to do with script writing and creativity and it gets way too complicated and is a can of worms to yap about at this point...this is not something I'm gonna do..
You wanna shoot chickens.. fine, I'll buy a stupid chicken ....I dont care about what can or cant be done.. I want to move on ...

That stuff takes forever to do.. I mean it.. so lets get down to the doing and less of the talking ....

I make a fake newspaper front page.. I have to print the stupid thing and affix it to a real newspaper.. then I have to light it, shoot the stupid newspaper ( in a bundle like a tied up newspaper delivery to a kiosk )....being thrown into the shot... lets get going !

Fuzzy Barsik Oct 26, 2013 2:04 PM (in response to able123)We dont HAVE clips from the movie...so we cant use them ...so we do the next best thing...we use PRETEND stuff to illustrate the discovery and the subsequent effect on people...
Rod, no needs to explain me how to pretend. Try to explain me what should constitute an official trailer to a commercial, which sells a movie. Why can't we tell the whole story? Or you're just trying to simplify the project, which started looking too complex to you at some point?
that is something you already know about as do I.... theres nothing to talk about .
You took me completely wrong: I don't care much of WHAT we will shoot, I care about making something happen. Particularly, this project irrespective of which story we'll eventually tell. And that means we HAVE TO DISCUSS what we can or can not do within the project framework. And discussions are actually a part of collaboration.
I dont need full res 300dpi after its done.. the whole point was to be able to use the paper to cut stuff out and pasted frames into other pages....just forget that idea.. I dont need it....
OK. Completely forgotten.
That stuff takes forever to do.. I mean it.. so lets get down to the doing and less of the talking ....
Not sure what you mean by 'forever', some fake stuff can be easily done within quite reasonable amount of time. Just appropriate skills required. For now please come up with a couple of full storyboard versions while I'm sleeping.

=============
Try to explain me what should constitute an official trailer to a commercial, which sells a movie. Why can't we tell the whole story?
==========
this is not a trailer to a commercial as our primary product. The ENTIRE project does include ( if desired ) the MOVIE we are selling with our commercial... thats up to you as you are doing the website which could include that .
what we are doing is a commercial to GO SEE THE MOVIE...
We are selling the idea of " you should go see this movie NOW " by showing people coming out of theatre who just watched it AND LOVED IT !
We are just making a commercial that sells the idea of going to see the movie.
It is not a trailer.
It is not including scenes from the movie.
The fiction is that there was in fact in real life ... a discovery of a flying saucer. The was a movie made about that. We are selling people on the idea of going to see the movie.
But it is NOT a trailer. It is being done on the basis of what MAYSLES did for seeing broadway shows ...using live documentary type shots of people coming out of theatre and saying " OMG , WHAT A GREAT SHOW "... thats it...

able123 Oct 26, 2013 2:14 PM (in response to able123)The website and other peripheral things involved in the PROJECT .... goes beyond our primary product.
That is.. we can now present to the public some of the background ( flying saucer discovery ) if desired.

228. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 26, 2013 2:28 PM (in response to able123)I guess I should sorta describe " establishing shots" ....
IN period pieces it is sometime necessary to build HUGE SETS that look like the period of time ( lets say the 1920's ). In the movie " Once Upon A Time In America " there is a scene where you see for about 15 city blocks.. and the people are wearing period clothing, there are horses and carriages as well as early autos on the street, the buildings ALL have old signs on them ( retail stores ) and so on... it cost millions of dollars to buld that set. It is on the screen for about 45 seconds.
It ESTABLISHES the time and place. From then on, when shots are inside buildings and so on, the audience BELIEVES they are in the 1920's in a real world of that period.
Basically that's an establishing shot....
Many times you can watch things on tv and movies and see the equivalent.
What my initial storyboard did was 'ESTABLISH' 2 things... Simultaneously.. at the same time.
1) it alludes to the " what came first the chicken or the egg " question.. which everyone in the world knows about except maybe some little cave in afghanistan ...
Because everyone knows already what the saying is.. " what came first " ....I don't dwell on the basics.. I allude to it only.. and trust the audience to figure it out.. I TRUST the audience to know what I mean....In this way I engage the audience ...as THEY ARE THE ONES FIGURING IT OUT ...
This is typically a good practice when you love your audience.
I dont need to show them chickens and eggs.. the words " what came first " makes those images come into their heads automatically.
2) At the same time I am establishing THE UNIVERSE.. the solar system... I am introducing something that is HUGE and could very well be any time in history...because once again I trust the audience to imagine for themselves what SPACE means ....how timeless and big that is ....
This is a stream of thought and imagination that needs the background story to be ' believable ' IMO...which is why I say the website could incorporate that ...
ok, so much for establishing shots...

Uh, Rod? Question.
Why not use After Effects to just composite the fake article onto the newpaper?

able123 Oct 26, 2013 8:02 PM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)yeah, I sorta guess so...aliens brought egg thing that sorta made some chemical changes or something so that life on earth got egg based sorta.... not really bringing new form of life to planet but influencing the little single cell things that were here billions of years ago...I would have to chk the stupid websites about the exact time...basically the fossil things at shark bay time period.
well, that AE option is for real...and maybe you could do that ??? I dont know how to use AE...I'm an AE idiot.
Plus, I kinda like the idea of seeing a bundle of newspapers being thrown onto ground .... like in the old days when bundles were delivered by trucks to kiosks ??
either way works for me...
at this rate everything is gonna be done really fast and down and dirty cause the clock is ticking...

...
We are selling people on the idea of going to see the movie. But it is NOT a trailer.
...
We are on different waves again, you don't COMPLETELY understand what I was asking about. The issue may partially arise from your personal decision to call a product (even though PRIMARY one) what actually constitutes just a part of the product, an item. There might be some other reasons though...
OK, let's try to step aside for a moment. Let's imagine we are not making a Product, we just want to buy a Christmas gift for a kid. We need a box to accommodate all things – this is something what unites everything and makes a gift a gift. We decided to present the kid a helicopter – this is our primary item (Movie, The). User manual is included with the helicopter – it explains how the helicopter works (our Behind the Scene Movie). We also want to write a postcard from Santa (our review article) and put it inside the box, wrap the box in gold paper and tie up with a red ribbon – this is what sells everything inside the box as a Christmas gift (our official trailer). The cardboard box itself is our website.
So, we wrote a note, what we need to buy, and went shopping.
At some point you say, 'Wait, we are not going to buy a helicopter, we go and buy a gold paper! And we need to buy three last issues of 'Aviation Magazine'.
Me: 'OK, but we already bought the cardboard box, and it is too small to accommodate a magazine issue and why...'
You: 'OK, if you don't want to buy the magazine, we don't!'
Me: '...we don't buy a helicopter? Are you going to put gold paper inside the box? Well, OK, but how are you going to wrap the box in this case? Or will we still wrap the box in gold paper, but just don't put a helicopter inside because we lack money to buy it? Or will we buy a truck instead of a helicopter?'
You: 'We don't buy a helicopter! We go buy a gold paper !!! Do you hear me, you warthog, we JUST DON'T BUY A HELICOPTER, WE BUY A GOLD PAPER !!!'
So, the questions remain:
- Are you going to put gold paper inside the box?
- Then how will we wrap the box?
- Or are you simply going not to put a helicopter inside the box?
I created a new folder in Dropbox, '! PROJECT CHARTER', and dropped a PDF file with our approved by 15 October 'Product Scope and Project Constraints & Quality Criteria' into it. Please, print the file and pin it somewhere to easily see when we discuss the Product and possible change.
Since it's a bit difficult for you to switch between inventing a storyboard and reflecting on the Product scope, forget about Product for a moment. Now we DEADLY NEED a couple of different storyboards. We will decide later what those storyboards are for. Just COME UP WITH STORYBOARDS. NOW!

able123 Oct 27, 2013 9:11 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)nice pdf format and content fuzzy.. well done.
okay...i see how you are seeing this ...the xmas story helped. I get what the trailer is now too...that is an interesting way of dealing with what it is...
hehe.. pretty funny post of conversation...
as for storyboards..you got my latest additon...and I've looked again at the first half ot that as well ( the words, " what " , then frame of spcae shot , etc. )
I also have your storyboard with chicken and eggs cooking turning into eggs is space..
I'm trying to avoid a voice over element but it would really be a lot easier to a VO so I think I just have to deal with it. Can you guys do a VO and sound halfway decent ? I sound like a mousey gangster from the 1920's.

235. Re: Lounge Production Presents: Joint Efforts Project
able123 Oct 27, 2013 9:37 AM (in response to able123)the poster should be vertical frame instead of horizontal...
also, since my storyboard has one frame with poster-like image...a cropped horizontal frame with slightly adjusted text position would need to be made. To make that cropped version 72dpi and correct dimensions means the size of the FULL poster would need to be larger than current dimensions....I have no clue how much higher...
but here's example of what I mean..
first is vertical frame type...
below is horizontal type for on screen
thats the idea ...in terms of frames....

able123 Oct 27, 2013 9:53 AM (in response to able123)note: for sake of putting posters in theatres ( within existing showcases behind glass etc ).. they are sorta the same standard size...so maybe we should try to copy that in terms of the proportion ??? Just as an exercise in being aware of the standard ??

But where are your ones, you warthog? I mean, full 60 second versions so that I could understand how you're going to tell the story.
the poster should be vertical frame instead of horizontal...
...
below is horizontal type for on screen
...
thats the idea ...in terms of frames....
Have you ever read the 'Product Scope and Project Constraints & Quality Criteria'? Either in PDF or in posts within this thread? Both vertical and horizontal formats are envisaged!
