1. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
EricPhilpott Nov 1, 2013 10:13 AM (in response to MonkeyEatsMonkey)I'm not sure if this is helpful, but you could use a dual monitor set-up, either using DVI-Out, or just with and extended desktop across two displays. Put the monitor view onto your big display and use the other one for your UI.

2. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
MonkeyEatsMonkey Nov 1, 2013 10:50 AM (in response to EricPhilpott)I agree this is probably the best solution, but I'm down to one monitor for the next week or two. Was hoping I could nab a bit more screen space in the meantime. I did find that you can resize the timeline slightly by dragging the border just below the current time indicator, so I guess that will have to do for now. Hopefully, a future update will give us more interface options. I'd love to be able to drag and drop panels like I can with Premiere/AE.
And while I'm soapboxing, I'll just go ahead and put in a request for curves. Seems like a pretty obvious tool to have in a color grading program, but it's not a dealbreaker for me. Overall, this latest update is great. I finally have a good color grading option for my Premiere workflow, and for that I am grateful.

3. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
Fran Roig Nov 1, 2013 10:50 AM (in response to MonkeyEatsMonkey)Hi,
You could try the shortcuts 'M' for hidding/show the timeline, or 'Shift + H' for full display.
Let me know if that helps!
Thanks,
Fran

4. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
MonkeyEatsMonkey Nov 1, 2013 10:55 AM (in response to Fran Roig)Looks like "M" pulls up a 'Frame Metadata' panel. Not exactly what I'm looking for, but nice to know it's there.
And "Shift + H" works for fullscreen, but I'd like to have my grading controls on screen as well.
No big deal if this can't be done. Just consider it a feature request.

5. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
EricPhilpott Nov 1, 2013 10:57 AM (in response to MonkeyEatsMonkey)Not to disagree with the request for curves, just want to point out that with the (adjustable) shadows, mid tones, highlights, and overall ranges, you have effectively 12-way color correction within a single grading layer in SpeedGrade. I don't believe anyone offers this degree of precision in making primary adjustments.
That said, please submit your featurerequests http://bit.ly/feature_request – give as much detail with your request as you would like. We rely on our users to help us shape our development plans.

MonkeyEatsMonkey Nov 1, 2013 10:59 AM (in response to MonkeyEatsMonkey)Oddly enough, after playing around with the keyboard, it seems like "P" hides the grading panel, but keeps the timeline! So close!!!

The amount of control you get with Speedgrade is insane. I'm not contesting that at all. But having controls for curves is just something that you would expect to have with any program that deals with color.
It's just another tool and another approach that I'm sure most colorists would like the option of having.

9. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
R Neil Haugen Nov 1, 2013 1:17 PM (in response to MonkeyEatsMonkey)I've also "skipped over" and put in a request for a curves control. I want that as THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGE TO SPEEDGRADE for me ... and yes, I'm shouting alright!
When I first started working in Sg, I thought those wheels were RAD-COOL-MARVY! Even went right out and got a good trackball so I can use the spinning wheel to do the luminosity and the ball for color changes. Yea, this was awesome!
But then ... saw a few tutorials where the teach was using programs with curves options ... and um ... tried that within AE.
Cool as the wheels are, working with a good-sized curve, one gets an amazing visual-feedback loop on what you're doing, and ... what you do, does. In fact, I was able to start predicting what any change I'd do would make, far above the ability I yet have working the wheels. There are times I've taken things to AE to do the color grade, simply because it was difficult footage and I'd do it better and faster using the curves controls. Even given the um ... less than perfect? ... application of scopes in AE.
Now, back to the original topic ... yea, I think I'd better put in a request for a way to show/hide the timeline also ... much of the time, I don't have TIME to worry about the timeline! (yea, quoting Ms. Troi there). Having a larger monitor would be fantastic ... and no, I don't have the dollar bills sitting around right now to just go out and buy a nice 24" or better high-end monitor ... oh, yea, and a few hundred more for the nifty Nvidia graphics card Adobe insists we buy to do it with also ... sigh ...

11. Re: Is there a way to collapse the timeline?
daveAndrade Nov 2, 2013 1:39 PM (in response to MonkeyEatsMonkey)I agree with that feature request. In a way, it's nice to hit P to make the preview larger so that you can check your work, but I use 2 monitors anyway. So yes, if there was a way to collapse the timeline and bring it back only when needed, that would be amazing.
I'm also going to submit that feature request.
