    What is 7za.exe?

    ChasLaird Community Member

I have the latest versions Photoshop CC, Bridge CC, and the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application installed on a Windows 7 Home Premium computer.  My anti-virus/firewall program wants to quarantine a file named “7za.exe” that is in one of the Adobe folders.  This file is located in

Program Files (x86) > Adobe > Adobe Creative Cloud > Utils > Zip

Can someone tell me what this executable does and if it is a legitimate part of the Adobe Creative Cloud installation?

      Thanks,

      Chas

7za.exe is the command line version of 7-zip, see http://www.7-zip.org/

It's in my CC zip folder as well. You may right-click on it and scan it with your AV if you wish.

Thanks for your reply.  Since you also have this file, I will assume it is a legitimate part of the installation of the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application.  I guess my AV program “Webroot Secure Anywhere” is just reporting a false positive in quarantining the executable “7za.exe.”  I will restore this file from quarantine to its original location.  Thanks again.

You should also contact Webroot support and see what they have to say just to be sure. Send them a copy of it. If it's a false positive they should know, if not maybe it was compromised.
