P Spier Nov 6, 2013 5:22 AM (in response to Paul Chernoff)This is a system option to open previous windows, not ID.

sandeecohen Nov 6, 2013 5:29 AM (in response to P Spier)I agree there's a system option, but I know I've turned it off, and I still get open windows. And it's happened on my Windows 7 machine which doesn't have an option.
I think, somehow, that InDesign's auto-save when it crashes is coming into play, even when there is no crash.

3. Re: ID tries to open files on startup
Paul Chernoff Nov 6, 2013 5:35 AM (in response to P Spier)I have tried turning off this option in the System Preferences but there is no change in behavior. InDesign keeps on wanting to open these files, which no longer exist. The strangest thing is that UTC keeps brining up messages about conflicting fonts for every one of these documents, so some sort of information about these documents is retained.

I can see where that might happen if the InDesign Recovery folder is on a network drive someplace and isn't properly cleared on shutdown (and I wouldn't be all that surprised on Windows 7 if the system fialed to clear the cache even when it's on the C: drive if you shut down Windows as well, and that might also be true for Mac). I don't run CC enough to know, but CS6 is pretty slow at releasing the memory and clearing the recovery folder, I think.

sandeecohen Nov 6, 2013 5:44 AM (in response to P Spier)Except I have no networked drive. Especially not on the Windows machine.

Paul Chernoff Nov 6, 2013 5:47 AM (in response to sandeecohen)In my case no networked drive is involved and I have been manually deleting the ID caches.

7. Re: ID tries to open files on startup
P Spier Nov 6, 2013 6:22 AM (in response to Paul Chernoff)I won't rule out the possibility of a bug, but I think it's unlikely with CS6 -- we just aren't seeing the number of reports of similar behavior that go along with that, and CS6 has been out over a year so you'd expect lot of folks to have the same problem if it was actually something in ID (I've never seen it, myself, not that it means much). I wonder if there's some other background program/utility involved?
