2. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
paulinventome Nov 5, 2013 12:11 AM (in response to dkitsov)This is the same as the thread i started with display issues with a Quadro 4000.
I guess we can eliminate the version of windows now, I see dkitsov is running a Quadro 4000 as the gui. What card are you running vanlazarus?
And the driver version?
cheers

3. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
JSS1138 Nov 5, 2013 9:02 AM (in response to vanlazarus2013)This does smack of a graphics card/driver issue.

4. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 5, 2013 9:11 AM (in response to JSS1138)I honestly do not think so. I have different versions of the drivers and rolled back as far as I could with no result change. Additionally when one calls for "reset the workspace" it alleviates the issue instantaneously albeit temporarily.
Yet again would be nice to hear from adobe folks. Something is broken with the way UI is drawn in this version of software. Again, problem only in CC and not in CS6.
Anyway we will see about the Gfx card theory tonight - will be replacing 4000 with Titan.

5. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
JSS1138 Nov 5, 2013 9:37 AM (in response to dkitsov)I have CC running fine with Windows 8, so it's not a general bug.

6. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
vanlazarus2013 Nov 5, 2013 9:57 AM (in response to paulinventome)Hi Guys.... It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this very bad bug.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on a 3770k CPU with 16gb RAM and nVidia GTX 560 graphics card.
It first started with nVidia drivers 331.65, so I rolled it back to 327.23 and then 320.49, but the problem still exists.
Is anyone with an AMD card experiencing this problem? I think this is a graphics card issue as well. Certain elements of the UI in Premiere CC just don't get updated.
Does anyone at Adobe have anything to say about this problem? I'd rather hear from someone state-side as the out-sourced tech help will have no clue.

7. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
JSS1138 Nov 5, 2013 10:06 AM (in response to vanlazarus2013)I'm using the 560 Ti with Windows 8.1 and driver 331.65.
I do NOT have embeded graphics on the CPU.
-
8. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 5, 2013 9:57 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)Running 331.65.
Still no issues in CS6 only in CC so do not agree with Mr. Simon Logic. Additionally, as I suspected Quadro 4000 was also not at fault as these issues continue with Titan GTX either alone or with two GTX 580 running alongside. Was there a bug introduced in CC? Different OS, different GPU configs, different mobos - one common - Premiere CC.
Cannot wait for guidance from Adobe.

9. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 5, 2013 10:17 PM (in response to JSS1138)Jim, you keep saying that. What is the foundation of your assumptions on?

10. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
paulinventome Nov 6, 2013 12:24 AM (in response to dkitsov)I think it's an PPro related bug rather than a driver issue. It could be something in the installation of the application. Resetting the workspace must clear something internally to allow it to work. For me i can make it fail immediately by attempting to drag a transition onto the sequence. Then the sequence will not update properly although it will play.
How do we post a bug report to Adobe these days? Has anyone from Adobe seen this thread or can look into it?
cheers
Paul

11. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 6, 2013 11:57 AM (in response to paulinventome)I really think that too. I remember a few years ago Adobe has changed the way interface was drawn in Photoshop and many people had similar issues with that app.
I have issues with text entry boxes behaving like holes that show through the screen before the tab in the interface was changed, and of course CTI not updating in the timeline but in the program monitor and vice versa, as well as the timeline just becoming a black nothing and the twirl down triangles not responding either.
-
12. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
paulinventome Nov 6, 2013 12:32 PM (in response to dkitsov)I get exactly the same behaviour with text entry boxes behaving as holes.
So this certainly isn't Win 8 related, as i'm on Win 7x64.
Anyone: how do we file a bug?
cheers
Paul

vanlazarus2013 Nov 8, 2013 2:05 PM (in response to paulinventome)Is anyone from Adobe reading this? I'm currently on hold for over an hour trying to reach someone that can help with this problem.

14. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
Tester543 Nov 8, 2013 2:23 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)For all of the people on this thread who are having this problem, can you clarify which version of CC you are using (i.e. CC 7.0; 7.0.1 or 7.1). When this problem is occuring in Premiere Pro, have you seen this problem reproduced in other Adobe apps like After Effects or Prelude?
Again when this problem occurs, does it persist when creating a new project?

15. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
vanlazarus2013 Nov 8, 2013 2:44 PM (in response to Tester543)I'm using Premiere 7.1. The problem does not seem to happen in other Adobe aps. The problem persists in new projects and old projects.

16. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
vanlazarus2013 Nov 8, 2013 2:59 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)The Adobe guy in India solved the problem for me. I don't know if it'll be permanent, but it's fixed for now.
He simply went in and renamed the directory where Premiere stores its preferences, so that the next time it started, it created those files. He thought that my preference files were corrupted.
The directory that he renamed was located in user/'Your Account'/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Premiere Pro. It was 7.0... he renamed it to 7.0.0 and Premiere created a new 7.0 directory with new files... and my problem went away. Hopefully this works for others and is a permanent solution.

17. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
Tester543 Nov 8, 2013 3:02 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)That's great. If you could save your renamed folder that would be helpful if we need to look at the preference file to see how it was corrupted.

vanlazarus2013 Nov 8, 2013 3:08 PM (in response to Tester543)Here is a link to a zipped copy of the entire preference directory (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/651378/7.0%20Corrupted.zip).

19. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
paulinventome Nov 9, 2013 1:40 AM (in response to Tester543)I'm seeing it in PPro 7.1 but i've not noticed it in other applications however the creative cloud app does sometimes display incorrectly. I am pretty sure i saw it in the previous version too. But i can't say for certain. I noticed it the first time when applying a wipe to some footage - i never normally use transitions so this may have caused it. I'd been using that older version quite a bit prior to that without noticing anything.
It appears in old and new projects and bare boes it's very easy to see it. New project, add footage, add a transition - no long move the time line in the sequence window. In fact just click the tabs between different panels shows the problem with 'see through' in the text boxes.
cheers

21. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
mdharrington1 Nov 10, 2013 2:17 PM (in response to dkitsov)I have reset my preferences, and rolled back Nvidia drivers....
No luck....this seems to be a PPRO issue....
Mine is so bad, the interface doesnt respond until i click into the title bar....
for instance if I scrub the timeline....the video will change, but the CTI will not move until i click the help button(or any on the file menu)
Adobe, if you are reading...please respond and advise....
I may have to roll PPRO back

23. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 10, 2013 6:53 PM (in response to dkitsov)So, I just made a fully clean install of Windows 8.1 and installed PPro CC.
I do not seem to have any issues with the PPro as far as the ones described in this thread.

24. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
mdharrington1 Nov 10, 2013 7:23 PM (in response to dkitsov)Thats good....i cant go through the hassle to do a clean install yet....
I just reinstalled PPRo and still no luck

25. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
mdharrington1 Nov 10, 2013 9:03 PM (in response to mdharrington1)Just did some testing....
different workspaces respond differently
Assembly....all good
Audio....no update...CTI freeze
Color Correction...all good
Editing....no update CTI freeze
editing cs 5.5....all good
the pattern so far is every second workspace works fine...at least for the defaults
adobe really needs to figure this out....

26. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
mdharrington1 Nov 11, 2013 1:57 PM (in response to mdharrington1)just found another little clue...
If the effects panel is open and in the foreground....CTI does not respond in any workspace
-
27. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
Tester543 Nov 11, 2013 2:43 PM (in response to mdharrington1)For the workspaces that are having problems, if you use the 'reset workspace' cmd, does the problem go away.
I am trying to get some debugging help from the developers. 'dkitsov' if your problem returns, can you identify things that were being done in Premiere that led to the problem coming again.

28. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
mdharrington1 Nov 11, 2013 5:37 PM (in response to Tester543)resetiing the workspace will fix it...UNTIL the EFFECTS panel is in the foreground....
as soon as the effects panel is showing the CTI freezes.....
It really seems 100% tied to the effects panel....not effect controls
Not sure why but this is 100% repeatable

29. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
vanlazarus2013 Nov 11, 2013 6:07 PM (in response to mdharrington1)mdharrington, you hit the nail on the head! Recreating the preference files only solves the problem because it puts the 'effect' panel in the background. As soon as I put the effects panel in the foreground, the timeline panel doesn't get updated, as before!
This bug is alive and well, but at least we can prevent it quickly.

30. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 11, 2013 6:50 PM (in response to mdharrington1)This was my experience precisely. So far (day two after clean so and cc install) no issues.

31. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
vanlazarus2013 Nov 11, 2013 8:44 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)This bug is getting weirder and weirder. I was just working on a project and added a still image then applied a Fast Color Corrector filter to it. Both the source and preview monitors went completely dead. No output no matter what I did. I deleted the preference files again, and still no monitor output. Premiere was unusable and I would get an 'Unknown Error' when trying to render anything!
Out of desperation, I deleted the preference files once again, and wham, monitors back, and able to render. Really strange.

32. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
Tester543 Nov 11, 2013 8:49 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)The screenshot from 'mdarrington' appears to show a dual monitor configuration (is that correct). Are the screen configurations that other people have dual or single monitors?
-
33. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 11, 2013 9:12 PM (in response to Tester543)Running in either dual or single display configuration made no difference for me when I had this issue. Even removing all but one GPU and leaving only one monitor plugged in did not make a difference.
The only thing that fixed my issues was a full clean reinstall.
-
34. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
mdharrington1 Nov 11, 2013 9:20 PM (in response to Tester543)its actually triple screen....
but I just tried running just 1 monitor and the outcome is the same...
whenever the effect panel is in the foreground the CTI freezes

35. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 13, 2013 1:58 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)Quick question: are you guys using Cineform or have Cineform Studio Installed?

mdharrington1 Nov 13, 2013 2:07 PM (in response to dkitsov)Yup...
cineform is installed

Interesting development

39. Re: Premiere CC doesn't display/update windows sometimes in Windows 8
dkitsov Nov 13, 2013 3:07 PM (in response to vanlazarus2013)Now to expand on my question (was running out of the door earlier, so it was curt).
I am the guy who experienced similar issues on Windows 7 and then after clean install of Windows 8.1 the issues went away. Yesterday, however, I had to open an existing project that required cineform codec to be installed so I went ahead and reinstalled and reactivated Cinefrom Studio Premium (2.0.0.285).
Did not have any issues with it yesterday. Today, on the other hand (and after a computer restart) I made a new project for something else I am working on which doesn't even contain any cineform footage, and then I had to go to the effect panel when I saw the dredded Search Field Hole.
Sure enough, all of the bad behaviors came back - an inability to untwhirl effect controls and wierd CTI behavior. Will try to uninstall Cinefrom later tonight to see if that was an issue.
On the side note Cineform has really dropped the ball lately. Pretty much unusable as a professional codec: timecode issues (non standard behavior), 23.9762 interpreted as 23.9800 etc.
