Minimize main speaker and boost audience questions?

I have a multicam shoot where the main speaker is mic-ed on one camera and there is a directional mic doing it's best to pick up audience questions on the other.  Since the Q&A is only at the end, I can use the clean audio for most of the presentation.  When I get to the Q&A, what I'd like to do is blend the clean audio with a boosted version of the directional mic but cut the main speaker as much as possible on the directional mic.  Is there any way to do this?

I was thinking about the Dynamics Processing effect.  If I boost the audio around -18dB and totally sink anything above -9dB would that work?  I tried playing around with it yesterday but I couldn't seem to make the loud speaker get softer.  Is there a better way to do this?

i know I'm not going to get great audio.  I'm not looking for great - just audible!

      Thanks in advance

If the two versions are on different tracks or different cameras then you can lay the two in sync in the Multitrack. Then you can use Automation to reduce the level of the audience track when the main speaker is on mic. If you are using Audition CS6 or CC you can also use the Dynamics Processing effect in the Effects Rack on the audience track with it's Sidechain fed from the main speaker's track to drop the level automatically when he speaks.
