SuiteSpot Nov 6, 2013 8:42 PM (in response to George Lea)Hard one to answer from several thousand miles away but maybe try bumping up the buffer size
I'm guessing a lot of processing is required for the auto pitch correction
If that doesn't work I'd be happy to examine your vocal track but I would also need a reference track eg guitar or keys
See how you go and if you want email me directly via the aatranslator website

George Lea Nov 7, 2013 8:42 AM (in response to SuiteSpot)Thanks SuiteSpot,
Well, as I mentioned in my opener, I considered the buffer size, but it really sucks that I have to change that just for Audition. And if it IS that, then why doesn't the software just take a little longer. Something else, is there anyway to actually talk to Support? This site is SOO convoluted for getting any kind of meaningful help. Certainly, no offense to you, AT ALL. I graciously appreciate ALL sincere help.

SteveG(AudioMasters) Nov 7, 2013 10:58 AM (in response to George Lea)I tried this myself earlier, and got a similar result with clicks and pops. No I don't think it's buffer related, but I don't know exactly what is causing it, I'm afraid. I ended up using RX3 to do it (customer job so I couldn't spend too much time experimenting) and didn't have any trouble with that at all. What's annoying about that is that it's supposed to be the same algorithm used in both - Radius.
I know what it sounds like, and a little more investigating is in order, I think...

5. Re: Dropouts in Auto Pitch Correction
SteveG(AudioMasters) Nov 7, 2013 11:59 AM (in response to George Lea)Phone the 'chat line'.... but I doubt very much whether they'll be any help at all.
But I have to revise what I said earlier - the manual and auto pitch correction options don't use Radius. They use the original Audition algorithm, and that's always had a few 'issues'. For a straightforward good pitch correction, then use Strech and Pitch, and choose the Radius option - that works fine, and doesn't exhibit any artefacts at all over small corrections.

George Lea Nov 7, 2013 11:59 AM (in response to SteveG(AudioMasters))Who is the moderator on this forum? Is it you, Steve? This kind of service is inexcusable! I'm not really expressing it twd you, but when I just went on Chat I was transferred THREE TIMES before I got another overseas lacky that knows NOTHING about this product, and after waiting TEN mins for them to freakin' verify my account they simply sent me a link to the owners manual, as if I can't, or didn't already read it. They didn't even attempt, or offer ANY troubleshooting procedures. Then they just shut down the session without even asking "Is there anything else, Sir" This is THE worst support site for ANY audio product I have EVER experienced. Adobe is a multi-billion dollar company, and they treat their customers like Marie Antoinette "...Let 'em F@#$% Eat Cake!" I will take this to as close to the top as I can.

Nope! I only have editorial control over FAQ's, not the forum. When I mentioned 'chat line' - well, that's unfortunately exactly what I meant - there have been so many complaints about it that we lost count years ago - what you are experiencing isn't an isolated incident, I'm afraid. So we stopped calling it 'help line' because quite frankly, it isn't.
I don't think that they (Adobe corporate) do care very much about individual support - the devs are better at that, and they aren't supposed to be doing it! If you're corporate and a large broadcast customer though, I'm sure it's another matter completely.

_durin_ Nov 7, 2013 12:56 PM (in response to George Lea)Sorry to hear about the negative support experience. If you saved a log of the session, I'd be happy to look into further. While the general customer service operators are unlikely to have a deep knowledge of Audition and audio processing, they should be able to document and escalate issues properly.
As for the original issue, if you can share a small snippet of audio showing a before and after of the problem, I can investigate. This effect shouldn't be terribly resource-intensive, and even if you heard dropouts during live playback, they shouldn't be audible when mixing down or bouncing a track.

George Lea Nov 7, 2013 1:46 PM (in response to _durin_)Durin,
Thank you for your consideration. I just had another very unproductive conversation with support. He sounded like a govt official selling used cars! After I explained to him that the settings I used for Attack, and Sensitivity were based on recommendations from the user manual and the margins they recommended for best results. So, I asserted that, if indeed, I was using the recommended settings I SHOULD NOT be having these kinds of problems. Furthermore, as I mentioned in my original post, it was a beautiful track at 24/48, with a really good singer; so it wasn't as if the algorithm had to perform magic to give me a good result, and I'm POSITIVE that I used the correct key sig. So, he gave me some gobbledygook that if I'm not getting my desired results then I need to try different settings. I hung up in his face I was so exasperated. I had copied the original Chat session, but didn't paste it anywhere, so I lost that too. But if this is par for the course, then, I guess you'd be wasting your time.
I can send you a short sample of the clip that demos another distortion problem I had which I think the Auto Pitch feature was causing during the processing. The key sig was F# Major, and I had the Attack/Sensitivity on 5/134 respectively. I also had the samples on 4096. Is that reasonable? Does it work better on simple Chromatic tuning? I would think I would get more accurate results if I applied the exact key sig.
Thanks Again.

_durin_ Nov 7, 2013 1:57 PM (in response to George Lea)Sure. Please feel free to send the snippet to audbugs@adobe.com. If you are able to include the original snippet as well, that would be very helpful.
Chromatic will just ensure a note is nudged to the nearest tone, but not the nearest tone within a particular key.
An Attack of 5ms will attempt to correct "off" tones very quickly, and can introduce artifacts - a common example is the now terribly-overused Cher or T-Pain vocal effect which combines short attacks to give that robotic "stair-step" transition between sung notes.
Sensitivity is measured in Cents and will not attempt to correct a note that falls outside that range.
If you preview the effect with the UI open, how active is the Correction Meter? Does it seem overly busy for what may be a light correction?
