how to auto-repeat background image? (CP7)

    rygaar Community Member

I would like to use a textured background in my CP7 project. The project is about 800 width by 600 height. Instead of having a large 800 by 600 background image, is it possible to ask captivate to reuse a smaller 800 by 60 image by repeating it vertically until it fills the master slide?  This would be similar to what happens when one sets the background to an html page, and it would theoretically make the project smaller.

In the master slide background image settings, I don't see such an option.

You can fill a smart shape with a Texture. Why not have a shape with the size of the file and fill it that way? Would you use it on a Master slide? Didn't check what happens when you merge it afterwards into the background there.

            Lilybiri,

Thanks for your suggestion.  filling a smart shape with the texture is a clever idea but I run into the same problem; the Fill operation doesn't stack the images one on top of the other. What I mean is, my project is 600 px high, and instead of using an image 600 px high I'd like to stack (repeat) a much smaller image (60px high) to keep project size down. When I fill the smart shape, the smaller image is not stacked, but used just once and stretched to fill the smart shape. as a result, the texture (the fill image) looks distorted and blurry.

Maybe this means that I would have to manually insert the 60px high image ten times over, line all the instances on top of each other to take up the full height of the project, and merge them to the background.

Think you missed the Tile option. Here is an example of a shape filled with a small graphic and Tile checked (kept the option Top Left to start with filling).

Lilybiry, you were correct. I had missed the Tile option.

Now I'll need to compare output file size between a file with a large image as background, and a file with a smartshaped filled with a smaller tiled image as background.

                Thank you

Can you post your conclusion, didn't find time to check it out myself?

I had a one slide project of dimensions 818 by 590

                    > The slide contains a caption box and nothing else

                    > The master slide had a caption box, a small image, and the background.

I published 3 SWFs using identical settings (compression, slide quality etc...)

                    > swf_1 had no background image: Published size = 391KB

                    > swf_2 had a large image as the background. The size of the image on disk is 248KB. Published size = 600KB

                    > swf_3 had a smart shape filled with a smaller tiled image and merged into the background. The size of the image on disk is 74KB. Published size = 775KB

Had hoped it would reduce the size, but it didn't. Thanks for posting,
