Flash 11 installed but not detected by websites

Can any body help?  I'm about to go postal here.  I am really hating Flash!  I'm trying to upgrade our computers because suddenly most websites quite working (saying we needed a newer version of Flash).  So round and round I go trying to get it working.

I finally gave up getting the stuipd thing to install with Group Policy Manager (there is a *major* problem with the .msi install package Adobe provides from V10 forward...even though it worked just dandy for 9 and down).  Instead, I moved to the Software Update Services route instead.

Now all of my computers have Flash 11 installed -- but half of them don't work!!!.  I can look in my logs and see "successful" install on all systems.  I can go into add/remove programs on any computer and see Flash 11 is installed.  However, web sites say that flash has to be installed.  Even going to the Adobe site on these systems comes up with a message saying that Flash needs to be installed.

I'll tell my users they can't use any Flash-enabled site before I start trotting around computer-to-computer to manually install Flash player!

Can anybody offer suggestions on how to fix this thing?  Centralized install is absolutly required.

Thanks for you help!

OS -- Windows XP mostly.   Are any of the computers, that are having problems, 64-bit?

Are any of the graphics drivers older that 6 months?

Has the person using the computer checked to see if the Shockwave Flash Object is enabled in Internet Explorer's Manage add-ons?

No.  I would have specified 64 bit since XP64 is quite unusual 😉

Please note that I can log on to a problem computer and manually install (or more accurately RE-install) Flash 11.1 from the Adobe website...then everything works fine.  So not a drivers issue or anything.

There appears to be something wrong specifically with the install packages for centralized administration methods.

Thx.

If you can zip up some of the install logs and whatever scripts you use to deploy, I'd be happy to forward along to our install team for their review.  Please feel free to contact me at ccampbel@adobe.com.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris.

- I followed instruction on the Adobe website to import Flash to WSUS using SCUP (System Center Updates Publisher).

- I authorized the package for install to all computers.

- I verified that logs show successful install of Adobe Flash 11 on computers.

- At problem computers (where web sites claim Flash is not installed), I went to Control Panel then to add/remove programs – I can clearly see Adobe Flash 11 installed there.

The only way I can get the computers to work is by logging in as administrator and acting like I’m a home user (e.g. go to http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/ and click on the get flash icon). Works fine then.

No scripts, no fooling around with anything – just using the SCUP instructions at Adobe titled “Distribution Strategies – Flash Player Catalog for Microsoft System Center Updates Publisher 4.5 (SCUP)”. Per my license agreement I cannot post the link, so hopefully you know where I’m referring to.

As far as when I try the install using Group Policy, I downloaded the MSI Installer for Windows Internet Explorer from “Download Adobe Flash Player” link provided after I completed license agreement. Put into a policy and it bombed out on basically every computer. When I started troubleshooting I attempted to manually run the .msi to see what would happen. Install would not succeed – produced an error message about a missing .dll. Sorry, don’t remember exact error message….but I could probably re-create easily enough. I did a web search on the error and discovered that a lot of people have the same problem.

I am having the same problem with Flash version 11,1,102,55.  Since I downloaded this version (Windows 7, 64 bit), the correct version is not being detected and I have to repeatedly download version 11 to get my flash swf's to play. See http://ottawadressage.ca/videos/.

Please help.

I dont really understand the above and feeling rather incompetent using OS Mountain Lion on my macbook air and using Safari.  In my system preferences it says I have flash.  I used to use Chrome and it worked but now that I got rid of Chrome I cant use Player.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times but I have no idea what to do from here.

I am not hugely Mac savvy in fact a little better with windows troubleshooting but this is so incredibly frustrating that it will not process. Help please?

Just went through a very frustrating Mac troubleshoot (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1293572?tstart=0) with Safari, and found out a few things.
Safari has a "lockout" on older Flash Player plugins so it's either the latest (11.8) or nothing, and if the latest doesn't work, you have no choice but to use Firefox and 11.7.

You NEED to go into your Global settings (in your System Preferences).

Under the Storage tab, click "Local Storage Settings by Site"

Add http://www.hulu.com/ to the list, select "Allow" and click "Add", then click "Close"

You shouldn't see it anymore

What is going here with these Flash Players ??? I use to be able update whenever I have to change ,but these days I can't even download the right Flash players because they are not right . I can't even use the Flash Player that just downloaded for Youtube and Facebook Application Games . I even try downloading Flash Player 10 but it won't download and I have an ASUS laptop Computer and I also the Dish Satelite Internet Service in which supposed to be a fast connection . So What is it with the Flash Players not cooperating with our computer systems ? Do you not know that too much downloading can cause computers to  CRASH !!!!! ? Computers are very expensive to go out and buy . Most people can not not afford to buy computers everytime they crash .  Mine is about to CRASH !!!! and I 've only had it a few years . What kind of computer do we users have to go with in order to play videos on Youtube or play games on Facebook ?  When I updated the Flash Player a couple days ago everthing started to work fine until now everything has quit working and I get an error message stating that I need to get the latest version in which is Flash Player 10 , but my computer won't accept it because it is not right .  Please I really some help and I have been reading the reviews from some of the users here and I have learned that people are having the same trouble as I am having . What I think it is could be a bug in which could cause viruses . Because I am having computer issues such an error message saying that my Internet server has stopped working . Please will someone check out these trouble shooting as soon as possible or else people are going crash their computers or end up with viruses . And I am one of your users . I am really upset and very angry over these trouble shooting issues .  I have tried every option but noting works out . So , I think someone needs to get their heads on straight and attend to these problems . Thank you for your time and I hope things will soon get straighten out here by the end of this Holiday season . I want to be able to play Facebook Games and Watch Videos on Youtube , like I have been for years .

"Do you not know that too much downloading can cause computers to  CRASH !!!!! ?"

Absolutely untrue. Downloading doesn't cause computers to crash. Fragmentation, viruses, dust, heat, liquid... All those can cause crashes, but a properly maintained PC (like my old Windows 7 machine - 6 yrs old when I replaced it - and it STILL worked) can download gigabytes of files for years and years with no problems.

"...everything has quit working and I get an error message stating that I need to get the latest version in which is Flash Player 10"

The latest Flash Player is 11.9.900.152.

You indicate that you have an ASUS laptop, but there is no mention of your Operating system (version of Windows) or which browser you use.  Without that information, it's impossible to troubleshoot your problems.
