Photoshop is unable to Register/ Auto-Closes upon opening

    MrNameloc Community Member

      Alright,

I've seen at least one other user with this problem, and it's nothing that can be resolved by signing in and out of the Adobe CC application, or even the Ctrl+Shift+Alt and opening trick.

So recently I went with the $9.99 a month package for Adobe Creative Cloud containing Photoshop and Lightroom.

No matter what I try, it won't ever prompt me to input a serial to register Photoshop, therefore any attempts at opening it set off it's anti-piracy measures and make it force-close immediately after opening/ after it finishes loading.

When I am able to try and register/ finalize registration, it wants me to "complete registration by updating your account information," yet the page continuously loops and clicking "Update and Continue" brings me back to the same page. Which disallows me to register Photoshop.

This is the reason why I, and possibly others, are unable to use Photoshop, for it auto-closes after fully loading, since it cannot be registered the same way Lightroom is.

(Lightroom is registered immediately via a prompt message upon first startup asking for a serial code, one of which that is alread inserted/ auto-inserted by the Adobe Creative Cloud application.)

Upon further investigation to prove my point, on my account the only product registered is Lightroom.

I've tried the customer support chat.

      Multiple times.

Possibly upwards of 16. Each time the representative went down the same list and copy/ pasted the same answers.

It's sad that I was the one to narrow it down and have the problem figured out.

Apparently I have to wait to contact their special support team on Monday to get this resolved.

Although, it appears the package is "Photoshop Photography Program (For CS3+ customers)," which is not the version listed and advertised all over the site.

(This package would indicate that I would not be able to use Photoshop since I have not owned Photoshop prior to purchasing this package.)

Yet the only package that this applies to is this one:

      http://screencast.com/t/pDylveniasI

      This is insanely annoying.

I would much rather do support via email, and I would also much rather have a more clear product description if the one I selected turned out to have been falsly advertised.

          Hi MrNameloc,

Connect to the Internet, and install your software or start it for the first time. You no longer need to register your product seperately, we have simplified things by making registration part of the installation process. CC app's activation is linked with your Adobe ID and is auto registered as you sign in.

Knowledge base article for activation: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html.

          Regards,

I've done both. Multiple times, actually.

My internet connection is constant, and I have tried signing out of Adobe CC and back in and re-launching Photoshop. Does the same thing, takes me to a webpage to finalize registration, then clicking "Update and Continue" simply refreshes the page, never allowing me to truly finalize registration.

I have also un-installed and re-installed Photoshop. Same thing over and over again.

It wants me to finalize registration to activate Photoshop, and it takes me to the same webpage, and never finalizes registration...

If Registration is part of the installation process, then I am screwed since mine isn't registering/ activating itself. Even after un-installing and re-installing.

Also, that support page has nothing related to the issue I am having. Especially since there are no error codes. At best, if I use Avast or COMODO to Sandbox Photoshop, I get an error stating "Photoshop has had a problem with the display driver."

            Picture: http://screencast.com/t/5A3eSNKHK

I originally thought this may be due to my graphics card, but then again Photoshop still is not showing up under the list of registered applications on my account.

Also, I have updated my graphics drivers.

            Here's my system specs:

            http://screencast.com/t/KxzpgrBO

All drivers are up to date, Windows 7 is up to date, Avast! Anti-Virus and COMODO Firewall have made exceptions for Photoshop so they can not block it from running/ connecting to the internet, etc.

            EDIT:

Uploading a quick video that is showing my problem...

I'm having the exact same symptoms.

Any other suggestions?  It's clear that looking at the products and services section of my adobe, Photoshop is NOT auto registering.  Had it registered properly, we would have Photosop listed, but it isn't. So your point is invalid here.  This is becoming quite a frustrating problem.  We can't use the software we have rightly paid for.

I was on their Chat Support yesterday for 6 hours. Possibly a bit longer.

Anyways, after waiting 4 hours for the Technician, the technician walked me through uninstalling Adobe CC and re-installing, but before he had me 'trash' the old preferences.

Below is the file path (highlighted in blue, obviously), and the items that were changed.

opm.db was deleted after changing the OOBE folder by adding the '.old' to it. (In the picture you can see the new versus the old...)

Then afterwards they had me to make sure Adobe CC would not run, then had me to un-install it and re-install. Then had me to un-install Photoshop and re-install.

(Well, they had me to un-install Photoshop CC, delete Adobe CC's preferences, un-install Adobe CC, re-install Adobe CC, then re-install Photoshop.)

Did not work for me. You/ anyone else could try and save yourself 6+ hours in their support chat.

They even assured me that, on their end, Photoshop had been registered on two machines already under my account; Meanwhile everytime I view my Adobe Products and Services, it still only lists Lightroom.

Trying to convince them that it's registration is pretty hard. I've seen people with cracks of Photoshop CC, didn't work because Adobe CC keeps re-installing itself if it isn't allowed to be connected to the internet. (They were having the same problem as us; Opening Photoshop had it auto-close, and since Adobe CC cloned itself the anti-piracy measures kicked in causing Photoshop to do this.) However, since the cracks only install the trial version, it's still functional for 30 days. Therefore if you're able to find a trial version of Photoshop, or maybe even get a pirated copy, you'll be prompted to put in a Serial; Then possibly ask Adobe for your Serial, register and activate Photoshop, and maybe it'll work.

Only reason why I suggest a cracked copy is because you are able to actually download the trial without signing into Adobe CC.

Plus, it will actually give you a prompt to input a serial key. Unlike the Adobe CC installer.

I went through the exact same process last night for around 3-4 hours on the phone with screen sharing. Made many uninstalls, reinstalls and driver updates but still no progress. Just like you said, they are positive it's not a registration problem but I'm sure it is just because of the way the software shuts down. Such a strange bug that the Adobe team seem to know nothing about.

I'm having exactly the same problem.  I installed on one machine.  Worked fine.  Installed on a second machine.  Photoshop CC opens and closes immediately.  Is Adobe going to solve this problem or should I cancel my subscription?

                          If you have ever used Steam, Origin, Xfire, Uplay, etc. you'll notice that these programs do not work when there are multiple instances of the same account being online;

Same rule applies with Adobe. Even though you should be able to run Photoshop CC on both machines just fine, you still have to be fully logged out of one before using it on the other. (This way it prevents sharing with a friend.)

Your problem does highlight the main problem, though: Adobe's anti-piracy measures and way of dealing with customers/ bugs is horrid.

The "Two installations," from as far as I can tell, allows you to only have Photoshop installed on two computers, and does not mean you are allowed to use two copies at the same time.

                          (Hooray for incessant DRM.)

So try logging out of Adobe CC on both computers, exit Adobe CC on the one you do not wish to use Photoshop CC on, and sign into Adobe CC on the computer you are going to use Photoshop CC on.

Thanks for the response, but my two machines are in two different cities, and I assure you the machine in the city I'm not presently is not even powered on much less logged into cc.

I have a friend with a pirated version of photoshop cc that actually works whereas mine is bought and paid for but inoperative.  Makes one think about one's options.

Then that must be another bug/ problem Adobe has been ignorant to fix.

Pirating would probably be best, at this point.

We are paying for the product, just using a version that works.

Someone who watched my video commented on it, instead of posting here, detailing how they fixed a similar issue:

I had the exact same problem and to solve this is what I did. uninstall photoshop, uninstall creative cloud. go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache and delete folder. Go to :C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore and delete folder also. restart computer, install creative cloud and photoshop. That worked for me I hope it helps.

And if you get the gdiplus.dll error just restart and that will solve it.

I'm going to try this and will give a follow up with how it went. Not too sure since apparently, according to Adobe representatives, my copy of photoshop has been "registered on two machines already."

If Adobe does not fix this in the next week, I'm cancelling my subscription. I really wish there was more I could do to raise awareness, yet Adobe is such a large corporation that is unwilling to have any sort of a decent support program.

Kind of can't believe the official Adobe support couldn't solve this one, or hasn't added it as a solution to the "CC apps close immediately on launch" troubleshooting issue. Thank f*ck this thread exists.

I can't thank you enough! When everything else I've tried so far failed, the solution you share here worked like a charm. Thank you, thank you and for the 3rd time: Thank you. And above all, thank you for sharing your findings and thank you for making the video that led Porfie Espinoza to share his own experience.

I've been having this problem for a bit over two weeks now and I've even started a thread of my own describing it and asking for help. I'll be posting the solution (with credits to you) in a mo.

I am puzzled with Adobe and their evident incompetence in helping paying customers to solve this problem. It's our luck we have users like you and Espinoza, that clear the trail for us privates.

                                      All the best.
