Premiere & AE CC will not launch/respond on new iMac

    blankenship

I bought a brand new iMac last week in order to complete a video project.

I'm running OS 10.9, and installed the Premiere Pro and After Effects CC Trials yesterday.

NEITHER program will complete launch with the "Admin User" account I imported from my old Mac, but they WILL launch and work fine from a NEW "Admin User" account I created as a test.

I ran the Adobe CLEANER, did uninstalls and re-installs of BOTH programs and the Adobe CC Desktop. No luck.

      This is what happens:

Premiere spends a couple minutes trying to launch...and then fails.  The launch graphic sits there for a couple minutes, then seems like it might be making progress.  "Loading ExporterQuickTimeHost.bundle"hits the progress screen, and after 30 seconds of that "Adobe Premiere Pro CC quit unexpectedly."

After Effects gives an error immediately upon launch

"After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/drleek/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces.2147.1407351242514081.xml' to 'Workspaces.xml'."

      with an additional error

"After Effects can’t continue: unexpected failure during application startup"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Go to http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere and, in the area just under Ask a Question, type in

          mavericks

You may now read all the previous discussions on this subject... be sure to click the See More Results at the bottom of the initial, short list if the initial list does not answer your question

I am Windows so did not bookmark the message, but at least one message thread has a possible solution for SOME mavericks problems

            Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd already searched out a lot of those posts before making this one, so perhaps should add:

The "delete Mediacore folder" option didn't work for me.

The "hold down Shift-Option while launching" didn't work for me.

A 45-minute online "chat" with Adobe Support didn't help me.

            Still Stuck.

I'm having the same issue! But only with After Effects, not Premiere.

And I've been chatting with Adobe support for two days now and they've been less than helpful. Is there seriously no one who knows how to fix this?

                Hi blankenship,

If you will go to the location that after effects throws while launching, it might be missing from that location. So after effects is unable to find workspace.xml in 12.1 folder. This happens if the product is not installed properly. Please follow the steps and re-install the products again.

Go to application folder and uninstall both the products, then go to documents folder>adobe and delete premiere pro and after effects folder containing 7.0 and 12.0 or 12.1 folders.

Go to mac hd>library>application support>adobe and delete Premiere Pro folder containing 7.0 folder. Again go to mac hd>library>preferences>adobe and check for premiere pro and after effects folder containing 7.0 and 12.0 and 12.1 folders.

Then navigate to go menu>go to folder option and type ~/library. This will take you to user library and then go to application support and preferences folder respectively and delete all Premiere Pro and after effects folder containing 7.0 and 12.0 and 12.1

Restart the machine and then re-install the applications again and check.

                Regards,

                Vinay

                  Hey blankenship and cmiller815,

Not sure if you ever got the problem fixed, but I was having the same issue you described and was able to find a solution.  I tried all the troubleshooting steps outlined in this discussion; deleting prefs, uninstall, re-install, etc.  and found that the answer was to go to the folder in the prefs /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1/Workspaces.2147.1407351242514081.xml'  and to set the permissions to allow read and write for all users on the machine on the main 12.1 folder.  I should add that I also ran a permissions repair using disk utility thinking that it would resolve my issue but it didn't.  It seems that for some reason the permissions got messed up after doing my data migration with migration assistant to my new iMac.

I was prompted to try this from because of this thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/5863018#5863018

I hope this helps and that you figure out your issue.

                    Thanks Ramontron-

                    This WORKED!

In my case, there was no actual XML file in the folder, but:
I changed the permissions for the Adobe Preferences FOLDERS to read/write, and now I'm up and running.

                    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/12.1

                    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Adobe/PremierePro/7.0

Adobe staff should make a note of it.

Guys, I wasted a ton of time on this.... I somehow must have missed it.  But in Mavericks OS the Library is hidden so you need to find it.

In order to do this go to Terminal and type:

                      chflags nohidden ~/Library

You will now be able to see the library and navigate down to the appropriate file and change permissions.
