1. Re: Equivalent to FCP range selection tool
shooternz Dec 2, 2013 4:02 PM (in response to Elliott B.)Does Shift-Click do it for you?
Does Lasso and Shift-Click do it for you?
Are you wishing to select parts of multiple clips simultaneously? DOnt think thats possible in PPro

Elliott B. Dec 2, 2013 4:04 PM (in response to shooternz)When you say lasso, do you mean the default selection tool (v) ? Shift-click only selects whole clips. I want to select partial clips.

3. Re: Equivalent to FCP range selection tool
Greg Popp Dec 3, 2013 7:03 AM (in response to Elliott B.)From the CC help menu, under "June 2013 new features", as well as from the CC PP manual:
Copy command enhanced to operate on a range in a sequence
The existing Copy command (Edit > Copy, Ctrl+C (Windows), Command+C (Mac OS)) is enhanced when used in the Timeline panel. If there are no clips or keyframes selected, and an In Point or Out Point is set, then the range of time between the In point and Out point is copied to the clipboard.

Epicsolo Dec 11, 2013 4:06 PM (in response to Elliott B.)Hi I was searching this thread for help because I use the Range Selection tool in FCP for every edit. Its the fastest way to make selects from a lot of footage. You click and drag on a clip in the timeline to make a selection (in the viewer you see the in and out point images) then hit a key to nudge that selection up to the track above. Your left with a timeline showing your selects in track 2 and your unused in track 1. I know you you can nudge, but is there anything close to this style of selection?

JSS1138 Dec 11, 2013 7:34 PM (in response to Epicsolo)I'd recommend doing it the old fashioned way. Load the clip into the Source Monitor, go through setting your In/Out points, and Insert each section to the sequence. Then you have all your good stuff and none of the unwanted.

shooternz Dec 11, 2013 7:52 PM (in response to Epicsolo)I would suggest same as Jim did for that task. Probably cos thats how I do it.
It simple and logical IMO.

Epicsolo Dec 11, 2013 8:12 PM (in response to shooternz)Thanks, Ive been working with that now. Seems like Premiere is geared toward that approach and works well. I dont think its as fast as the 2 button Select Range and Nudge approach in FCP, it can be extremely fast for going through a lot of similar footage. Plus you get the visual of used and unused on 2 different tracks which I like for when your going to back to look for something missing. It works really well on music videos and that type of footage.

9. Re: Equivalent to FCP range selection tool
shooternz Dec 11, 2013 8:25 PM (in response to Epicsolo)I think you could still use IN and Outs in the Sequence and Nudge the Clip up.
I guess at some time you need to clean up the timeline though.
If something is missing and I go searching ..I use "Locate In Project" from the clip a lot.
