Pr CC / Mac - Cannot open project!!!

    [r]Evolution Community Member

      '08 MacPro w/ OS X 10.7.5 - Pr CC v7.0.0 (was up to date but uninstalls/reinstalls)

I have been natively editing a multicam project for the last 2weeks:

      * 3Cams = 2 Panasonic AVCHD + 1 JVC GY-HM150U ProHD .mp4

I'm finished with the MultiCam and am now editing the last 2mins of my 2hour project when...  Pr CC CRASHED! It just dissapeared!!

When I try to reopen the CC project, I get: "The project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file of codec could be associated with this sequence type."

When I start a new CC project and try to import the JVC GY-HM150U ProHD .mp4 footage, I get: "Unsupported format or damaged file."

I have tried Uninstalling/Reinstalling Pr CC over & over but I am still unable to open the project or import the footage into a new project. I am also unable to update Pr CC via Application Manager: "Update Failed. Updates could not be applied. This patch is not applicable for you."

As we all know, the Pr CC project will not open directly in  Pr CS. No matter because now I'm being asked to enter my SN/Activate CS which is unable to connect to the internet. (I'm writing this via my connection to the internet)

** I've been at this for 2days now!!!

** Support has been frustrating at best.

      Anyone experienced this?

Any thoughts on how to get it all straightened out?

I may have to set aside time to redo my entire system as troubleshooting is too frustrating, confusing, and time consuming.

      __________

If I were to upload the Pr CC project file to my Dropbox... would some kind soul Download/Open it... and export an XML of the final sequence (07_ReCap), which I can then open in FCP?

(or at least tell if there is another problem besides the preview CoDec)

          Hi [r]Evolution,

You might be using some third party effects or plugins. Please remove all the plug-ins from media core and then try to open the project. I was able to open the project file on my machine but getting gray lines all across the timeline. So, remove third party plug-ins to the desktop and try opening the project. Once the project opens save a copy of it and then move the plug-ins back and try to reopen the saved copy of the project.

          Media Core location:

          Startup drive>library>application support>adobe>common>plug-ins>7.0>mediacore

          Regards,

          Vinay

I tried moving all FX out of MediaCore but still get the error when trying to open the project: "The project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file of codec could be associated with this sequence type." This tells me that it's either the camera CoDec  or my sequence preview CoDec.

I am aware of the FAQ and know that is exactly what the problem is. The CRASH knocked out my activation and killed my CoDecs. Now I am  unable to ReActivate Pr as CC says it's unable to connect to the internet. Support had me delete a couple of folders & UnInstall/ReInstall multiple apps in hopes of being able to ReConnect/ReActivate but nothing has worked as expected. My JVC footage is simply no longer recognized.

Unfortunately, I am the only one in my circle I know of that uses Pr CC. Most of my colleagues use FCP or Avid with one independent that uses Vegas.

As today is the 3rd day I'm spending on this... I have to cut bait and move on and revisit the issue when I have a clear head and schedule.

I have everything exported except this last sequence. I also have another project that is at this same point but I will complete the ReCap in another NLE.

As I sometimes have a project that will have different sequences comprised of different media from different shooters (DV, AVCHD, HDV) I am at a loss for why the Pr programmers do not allow Pr to open the project but leave the offending media offline. (I know, file a feature request... I have) This would at least allow me to Transcode my media and replace it or  allow one to export the offending sequence as an XML to finish elsewhere.

            Do you have dropbox?

Can you (or some other kind soul) download my prproj, export an XML of the final sequence (07_ReCap), upload it to your dropbox, and I'll reconnect the media in FCP on my end:

This would at least allow me to Transcode my media and replace it

You might be able do that outside of PP, if need be.  Use the free software of your choice to transcode, then just rename the original folder and make sure the new files have the same name and folder structure as the original.  When PP next opens, it will see the new versions.

I recommend the free, lossless, cross-platform UT codec.  It plays nice with PP, and there should be no activations issues.

Hey man! I've been struggling with this issue for over a month and i finally solved the problem. Open the damaged project file with "TextWrangler" or any other notepad alike app and by pressing cmd + f find the 12 rows starting with

                "<MZ.Sequence."

and now open a not damaged project file with the text editor and find the same 12 rows. Copy and paste the ones from the working project file to the damaged one and save the file. If everything done right, then it should be working now Hope this helped

the rows should look something like this

                <MZ.Sequence.AudioTimeDisplayFormat>200</MZ.Sequence.AudioTimeDisplayFormat>

                <MZ.Sequence.EditingModeGUID>cc7991f5-c236-4db1-957e-2c71f924e81c</MZ.Sequence.EditingMode GUID>

                <MZ.Sequence.PlaybackFractionalResolution>2</MZ.Sequence.PlaybackFractionalResolution>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewFrameSizeHeight>1080</MZ.Sequence.PreviewFrameSizeHeight>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewFrameSizeWidth>1920</MZ.Sequence.PreviewFrameSizeWidth>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewRenderingClassID>1297106761</MZ.Sequence.PreviewRenderingClassID>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewRenderingPresetCodec>1297107278</MZ.Sequence.PreviewRenderingPresetCod ec>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewRenderingPresetPath>EncoderPresets/SequencePreview/cc7991f5-c236-4db1- 957e-2c71f924e81c/I-Frame Only MPEG.epr</MZ.Sequence.PreviewRenderingPresetPath>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewUseMaxBitDepth>false</MZ.Sequence.PreviewUseMaxBitDepth>

                <MZ.Sequence.PreviewUseMaxRenderQuality>false</MZ.Sequence.PreviewUseMaxRenderQuality>

                <MZ.Sequence.ScrubbingFractionalResolution>2</MZ.Sequence.ScrubbingFractionalResolution>

                <MZ.Sequence.VideoTimeDisplayFormat>101</MZ.Sequence.VideoTimeDisplayFormat>

                  My Solution:

Saw a group of skateboarders filming yesterday at the library across the street from my house. One of them said he uses Pr CC and had it on his laptop. He was able to open my .prproj, export an XML, and throw it back on my thumbdrive. The process took less than 5minutes and cost me $10. He said that was his first paying gig. Today I was able to open the XML in FCP and relink my footage.

                  Jim Simon:

I tried this on a project before with Compressor & Squeeze but lost my timecode or something as the sequence was no longer in tact.

It made all the edits start at the beginning of each clip. Maybe I used the wrong CoDec?

This FREE, LOSSLESS, CROSS-PLATFORM UT codec - sounds too good to be true!

                  http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite

I might just have to add that CoDec/Trancode to my workflow as I haven't felt this let down in a while.

                  pavasarz:

Thank you for that info. I'll have to give a go... in case I find myself in this situation again.

I'm sure having the info here will also come in handy if/when others find themselves looking for a solution to this problem.

UtVideo CoDec jumps, stutters, stops, goes, etc. in Quicktime... can't check its playback in Pr yet.

As advertised, Video quality does appear to be 1:1 to my naked eye. Although this CoDec may/may not become my new editing CoDec... I still need the others to be present/activated.

                    ______________

                    * Per advice from support, I need to uninstall/reinstall everything... CS6 & CC *

Remove Creative Cloud on Mac OS:

                    1. Double-click your hard drive.
                    2. Go to Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers.
                    3. Run all of the Adobe uninstallers to remove all of the Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

None of the uninstallers will/would run!

Adobe Application Manager  bounces/bounced in the dock and nothing ever happens/happened so I uninstalled everything  with 'CleanApp' then ran Adobe CC Cleaner Tool and cleaned everything! (CS6 & CC). Searched for & deleted all folders that seemed to have anything to do with any of the Adobe apps.

                    My next step is ReInstall.

Support did nothing more than add to the frustration during our Connect Session.

                    ______________

I'll try to keep my post from turning into a Rant but will continue to update until I find a solution to getting my Adobe apps working again in hopes of helping others that run into this.
