1. Re: Any Solutions for when Premiere Elements 8 which crashes when Title is used?
Bill Hunt Dec 5, 2013 5:25 PM (in response to Mocca Warrandyte)Welcome to the forum.
One of the major causes of crashes with Titler, is a bad, corrupt, or poorly-written font. This article covers more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4185832#4185832
Since things worked, have you added any fonts, or programs that added fonts?
Good luck,
Hunt

Mocca Warrandyte Dec 5, 2013 5:48 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks for your response Bill. No, nothing has been added. I will look up the article. I have not used defrag yet, which I think earlier responses also suggested.

Let us start with the usual Premiere Elements 8 drill in the thought that previous set parameters may have been accidentally changed
1. Are you running Premiere Elements 8 as the 8.0.1 Update?
2. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering feature and the AutoAnalyzer feature turned Off?
3. Do you have the appropriate preference setting for Enable GPU Playback?
4. Have you gotten rid of pile ups of preview files and conformed video and audio files?
5. Two deletions to consider
a. Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file
Local Disc C
Users
Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Premiere Elements
8.0
and in the 8.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete.
b. blDrivers.txt file and blLog.txt file
Local Disc C
Program Data
Adobe
Premiere Elements
8.0
and in the 8.0 Folder are the blDrivers.txt file and blLog.txt file that you delete.
Make sure that you are working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete paths.
Above paths based on Windows 7 64 bit.
We will be watching for your results.
Thank you.

4. Re: Any Solutions for when Premiere Elements 8 which crashes when Title is used?
Mocca Warrandyte Dec 6, 2013 7:21 PM (in response to A.T. Romano)Thank you ATR. Since my last post I have defragmented the disc in addition to the above things. The outcome was still the same. I then reinstalled the PRE 8 in the hope that that might work. Initially ii had the same problem, but then today it came up with a message "There is no disc in the drive. Please insert a disc into drive E" [my DVD drive]. The options on the message were "Cancel", "Try Again" and "Continue". I put the PRE 8 disc in and pressed continue and it allowed me to enter titles. This message had come up one or two times with the previous installation and it would also allow titles if I simply ignored the message. However, it did not come up on the many other attempts to open the project and insert a title and therefore I could not use the titles when it did not appear.
I am in the process of exporting the last project which allowed the completion of the titles as an MPEG2 Blueray for playing on a media player. However it has paused at 89% with 9 min to go for quite while so I am not hopeful that it will complete.
I will run through the steps you have listed and see how it goes.
Once again, thanks for your time.

Thanks for checking out the suggestions. Once we have ruled in or out the items on the list, we can move on to other factors. Best not to take anything for granted.
That no disc in the drive has been associated with SmartSound problems. I am wondering if we should go there next. But, I would ask, "Is that message gone for now or is it returning periodically still?"
Two of the biggest troublemakers in Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 are automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalyzer. So make sure that do not get turned back on accidentially.

Re your suggestions.
1. I am running the 8.0.1 update
2.Have turned the Background Rendering off.
However, I cannot find where to turn the AutoAnalyzer off.
3. Enable GPU is off.
4. Had removed all preview video files, except the two I was working on.
Are audio files separate? All files within 8.0 are deleted so I guess I cleared these as well.
5. (a)Cannot find Premiere Elements Prefs files down this path or through a Search. Only Layouts, OLS and SC folders there with one Editing file [yesterdays] in Layout, the other folders are empty.
(b) found these files though Search and deleted.
Unfortunately no success to date.

7. Re: Any Solutions for when Premiere Elements 8 which crashes when Title is used?
Mocca Warrandyte Dec 7, 2013 8:45 PM (in response to A.T. Romano)Re the message box that appears. It has not appeared on the many openings I tried today. However, it was appearing infrequently previously.
As a matter of interest I was able to export the file in which I completed the titles [because the message had appeared] on the second attempt.

1. AutoAnalyzer. In the Premiere Elements workspace, click on Organizer in the row below the active Organize header to open the Elements Organizer. In the Elements Organizer workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options and turn off all the options you find there. To get back to the Premiere Elements workspace from the Elements Organizer workspace, in the Elements Organizer workspace, go to File Menu/Exit.
2. Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs deletion. Please go back and trace your path. You want to go Premiere Elements Folder and then the 8.0 Folder in the Premiere Elements Folder. You do not want the Premiere Elements 8.0 Folder. Please take another look at that.
3. That was great news about your successful export.
Please update us on further developments when you get a chance. And, do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions or need clarification on anything written here.
Thanks.

Thanks for this.
1. I have now turned off all the items under AutoAnalyzer.
2. Found the Pref file and deleted it.
Unfortunately the problem still persists.
Should I reinstall and go through all these steps again?
Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the update. Sorry the news is not better. But, onward.
If you have not been through the uninstall/reinstall process, it is probably time to go through that.
Before you do, just to dot the i's and cross the t's, check out the video card driver to make sure that it is up to date according to the manufacturer of the video card. If that does not contribute to getting the issue resolved, then
1. Go back to the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file, but this time delete that whole folder (8.0 Folder) in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Before you just deleted that one item in the 8.0 Folder, namely the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file. The path is reproduced for reference.
Local Disc C
Users
Owner
AppData
Roaming
Adobe
Premiere Elements
8.0 Folder
and in the 8.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete.
2. If that does not have any impact on the situation, the let us go for Help Menu/Deactivation in the open project. Close out of there. Then Uninstall via the usual Control Panel route. Next ccleaner, regular and registry parts. Then Reinstall the version 8. Then Reinstall the 8.0.1 Update.
Please review and let us know if you have any questions on the plan.
Thanks.

Thank you.
I will follow suggestions as indicated. I have reinstalled before, but uninstalled using the installation wizard. I was considering going through the Control Panel the next time so happy to do all of this and hopefully reach a solution. I will get back with news of the result.
Thanks for your time to date.

Let us see how you do with the present plan. If it gets to a matter where the uninstall process becomes critical, we might even consider doing the uninstall with a program such as Revo Professional. But, I do not know if it will get to that.

Success!
Followed the plan as above and made all the changes as you had suggested earlier. I have tried it with a number of titles and it appears to be working well again.
Thank you very much for your time and your help, it was much appreciated by this old man.

Used it today quite a bit and all worked well. You may have been in the back seat, but I could not have succeeded without your help.
Thanks one again.
Hopefully I will not need your assistance again, but I am sure others also appreciate your help.
Best wishes
