Anybody know what this error means?

    Elliott B. Community Member

I've been working on this project in Premiere for two weeks, and today I start getting this error.  Then Premiere quits.  It's happened three times in the last 2 hours.  Luckily, the recovery project has been working great, saving all my changes.

CPP is usually a source code file.  Is this file actually on my hard drive somewhere that I can take a look at it?  I wouldn't think so, but I'm not sure why it's referenced like this.

When I went back to http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere and entered

          cpp-157

in the line under Ask a Question (Adobe's funky idea of a heading that really should be Search This Forum) there were 0 results... not even this message, since the search does not search for text in screen pictures

The more critical part of the error to search is "trackItemSelection.cpp"--that's the name of the file. The "-157" is the line number in the code, which will sometimes change from one version to another, so you're liable to find only crashes in the same build.

Googling "trackItemSelection.cpp" returns only 5 hits, and 2-3 of those are errant. Unfortunately, the two actual hits are just "what's this error" questions, with no resolution.

I'll ask a developer to investigate next week.

Elliot: is there any pattern to when this happens--exact repro steps, or a particular clip or sequence that triggers the crash.

Actually yes, each time it crashed I got a little closer to narrowing it down.  Eventually I found it was one particular clip.  Every time I selected that clip, either by clicking or dragging a marquee, it crashed.  I was able to remove the clip with an overwrite edit, and haven't had a problem since.  (It's been working for about an hour.)

This clip was audio, from Sony FS700 footage.  Pretty ordinary I thought.

                Hey Elliott

are you running CC or CS6? I had this issue on CS6 and tracked it down the same way. Removed the offending clip and all good afterwards.

                  I'm running CC (7.1.0).

Off-topic:  I just noticed at the top of the about screen, it says "More Reel".  What does that mean?  Just curious because it's written in the error message too.

Great! Glad to hear you isolated the clip and found your way around the crash.

Can you load the master clip into the Source Monitor? If so, can you add trim it, insert it into a sequence, and then select it there without crashing? It would be great to determine  whether the crash is a) ubuiquitous with this master clip, b) common to multiple  sequence clips from that master clip, or c) limited to the sequence clip that you've now overwritten. If it's (a) or (b), I'd appreciate getting a copy of the clip and a test project so we can attempt to reproduce and fix the bug.

"More Reel" was the code name for 7.1. It's a play on the code name for 7.0: "Sir Reel."

In my new recovered project, I am able to load that clip in the source monitor, put it in a sequence, and select it.  Seems like it was limited to that sequence.
