Using Attack & Sensitivity in Auto Pitch Correction

    George Lea Community Member

So, since Adobe Corp Help is about as useless as (pick your own nemesis), I'm coming here to get help from the real users.  I'm learning how to work with the Sensitivity slider, and I think I'm getting the gist of it, but I want to compare notes with other users.  When I get nasty clicks in the auditioning of a vocal track, I pull back on the Sensitivity slider until I hear none.  Then, after I apply that setting, I push the slider a little higher to improve the pitch accuracy.  That seems to work quite well as far as eliminating pop; however, the obvious concern is to get the pitch as accurate as possible.  So, I'm wondering if there's a consensus amongst users if they have a reasonable range of accuracy to expect when they using the Sensitivity slider.  Meaning, is about 30% about as high as you can reasonably expect, or do you have much higher expectations.  The vocalists I'm working with are pretty experienced singing with 1 another, so I'm figuring the results I'm getting are pretty good at 30%.

Hi George and welcome to the forum

I don't use the Automatic Pitch correction as I get much better results using the manual pitch correction.

To me, applying one value for an entire piece of audio eg 30% Sensitivity is a little like trying to set the track volume for that same audio when what will get the best results will be using track automation to fine tune each volume adjustment across the track

This example was done a long time ago using Au3 but the principle of manual pitch correction is the same in CC but just easier and with better visual cues

I realise this is not a big help so maybe try splitting the vocal over a number of tracks and applying slider values that suit each piece

I'm afraid that, if you're looking for a consensus among users, I'm with Suitespot and much prefer the Manual Pitch Correction to the automatic.  I've never been able to find a one size fits all setting for a whole track and like the control the manual version gives me.

In the past, I played with the automatic correction by doing more or less as Suitespot mentioned--going through a track and, each time I hear an egregious bad note, applied automatic to just that section--but I quickly decided that even this wasn't as good as simply going manual.

Well, thankfully, I don't have to worry about it anymore cuz I have Sonar X3 Studio, which comes with Melodyne Essential, and essentially it blows AU CS6 out of the water!  No clicks, no nutin'!
