    Safe MXF player?

    naumen Community Member

      Hello

i recently did a fresh install of Win 7 and Adobe Production Premium CS6 on my new PC, and i read somewhere here on hardware forum that u have to be careful about the programs u instal on Editing PC. as i remember the info stated that on editing pc there should be installed mostly the programs u need for editing and nothing more, and especially there should not be installed 3rd party codec packs. I used to use VLC player, but as i understand, with these rules, its not safe to use it.

So i wonder how many of you following same rules and if so what is the safe player to play MXF files?

      Regards

VLC and MPC are completely safe to install. Both are good players.

I'd agree, VLC is fine to install.  I can also highly recommend the new PotPlayer, which does even better than VLC.

One of the nice things about a *few* video players, like VLC and MediaPlayer Classic HC, is they first rely on existing CODEC's, that have been installed in the system, THEN, if necessary, rely on a set of CODEC's, that they contain - but do NOT install in the system. That allows them to play a great deal of material, that other players (ones that only rely on system CODEC's), cannot.

The same can be said for several file conversion programs. Good ones, that I have seen, ONLY will work with existing system CODEC's, and will NOT install any others. That helps keep one's system clean.

I recommend ONLY installing the CODEC's needed, when needed, and then, ONLY from a trusted source, like MainConcept, or similar, even if that means paying for those CODEC's.

The only concern is that many good freeware utilities seem to be adding bloatware, such as browser toolbars, etc., so one should ALWAYS pay close attention, when installing, and should always do a Custom Install. I have not heard of such with either VLC, or MPC HC, but recent versions of other utilities, such as MediaInfo, seem to be taking $ from other companies, and will install bloatware - if one is not careful.

Adobe has been taking grief with Flash Player lately, for adding "stuff," during its install/update. Always be careful.

                Good luck,

I am always in for a good player. One that will play BD iso's for one.

I am a bit reluctant to install your recommendation.

The last one (forgot the name) put its foot in everything. Had a real hard time getting rid off it as it did not play well.

                    Which one?

(By the way, I always test new players on my personal machine first.)
