What are we worth?

I am posing this question for two reasons. I am curious to see what a CF
developer is worth to a company and also because I might be switching dev
jobs to another company that is going to switch from ASP to CF and would
like to know what I should be asking for to keep in line with fair market.
So, where is everyone from and what do they make? (Employed professionals
only, please.)

I am in Ann Arbor, MI and I am making $50k with full benefits.

Go to http://www.indeed.com/salary and do a search for coldfusion Ann Arbor, MI, or wherever this new job your talking about is taking you. It will give you a general idea of starting salaries for CF developers.

Are there any CF shops in Ann Arbor? I was thinking of moving there myself and need to find some work.

A2 is probably not the place. Check out Minacs in Farmington Hills.

Based on cost of living, etc, I am going to venture that $50K is quite a bit on the low side. The DC area or the hot tech spots in Flordia will likely see that increase by 50% or more.

But as I implied, with the increased cost of living, your disposable income will likely remain the same!

A certified CF developer in DC with a few years' experience should command a 6-figure salary in DC... depending on how well you can pitch your skills as a Sr Developer/Architect

Agreed, $50K is too low.

And you don't necessarily have to be in a major center to pull in a good buck (though it certainly doesn't hurt). A lot depends on the company in question. I work for a mid-sized bank (so they've got a few bucks), and though we're two hours outside of any real population center, the compensation is most agreeable.

I implied from Wally's post that he was switching to CF, and was not exactly a Sr Developer. Hence my salary estimate is probably pretty accurate.

I conceed, however, that my assumption of his skill level was a bit of a leap based on the information that he provided. It looks like he would he helping the new company switch to CF, therefore it is not Wally that is new to CF, but the potential company!

I was looking at that link post in a previous thread, it shows that Florida
is a $20k drop. Since our school will be moving there in 2 years, I wanted
to see if it was worth wild.

Also, from living there for about a year, I think the cost of living in
Florida isn't really that much cheaper.

Actually I have been a CF developer for about 3 years. I am switching jobs
and I wanted to know what I should be asking for to keep in the average of
what people in my area make. I am not a senior dev.
