FR: Intelligent tab name for Project Window

    PierreLouisBeranek Community Member

The main Project Window's tab should be simply named "Project" instead of "Project: [Project Name]".

      Why?

      1. Premiere can only open 1 project at a time, so having a long tab title serves no purpose whatsoever, and is actually detrimental because

      2. The exceedingly long tab that appears from including the text "Project: [+ entire project name]" can bump other attached windows out of view as illustrated here:

My current work around is to nest all of my project Bins/files into a master Bin named 'Project'.  This way, my Project window's tab appears as the reasonably short

      "Bin: Project"

      rather then the unreasonably long

      "Project: 2013.11.28 Wedding - Christina & Petros (13.05.20) version 2" for example

With a short Project window tab, I can have easy access to my Effects window, which shares the same UI area (a great Workspace setup on a laptop!).  This work around has it's problems though, since when creating nests or other items, they often appear in my Project window's root folder, and therefore out of view of my 'Project' bin!

But why resort to a less than perfect work around, when Adobe could easily fix this for everyone by simply naming the Project Window "Project"?

As far as I can tell, automatically giving the Project window unnecessarily long names provides zero benefits while creating a very real UI problem.  And simply naming one's PP projects very short names isn't an option from an organizational perspective.

I'd love to hear from any Adobe reps regarding this!  Thanks!

It's a quick way to see what project you're working in.  I like it.

My recommendation would be to use shorter project names.  I generally use only the groom's last name - Petros Wedding

As stated, using short project names is NOT an option for organizational purposes.

Do editors really need to be reminded of which project they're working on through the Project window's tab?  And even if some editors suffer amnesia and forget what they're working on halfway through an editing session, I would still argue that the Project window tab is a terrible and completely unnecessary way of indicating the currently open project.  Why?

1.Check my posted image... often the project name will be cut off due to lack of UI space to fully display, meaning a user can't even see the full project name unless they scroll with the tiny Project window scroll bar.

            2. The full project name, and complete folder path for that matter, appears in the middle of the top blue UI bar!

Sorry, but it sounds to me like once again you've come up with an irrelevant argument for nothing more than argument's sake.
