    iZotope Radius settings

I want to time stretch a musical recording and maintain the pitch, and I'm under the impression that iZotope Radius does a better job than the Audition algorithm, but I can't find documentation anywhere on how to use its settings.

Primarily my question is vocoder mode - what is it and when would you use it?

          Hi Elliott,

At least I got this answer in under a year.  Yes, docs and explanations are hard to find... but not impossible.  The meat of what it does gets into technical areas like phase cancellation and formants, so here is my interpretation of what I have found:

Vocoder Mode comes into play more when changing pitch, though it does help some if you're stretching a clip an extreme amount.  It makes sure that any created samples and new overlaps stay in phase with each other.  If you hear little stutters and artifacts after processing a clip, Vocoder Mode kind of smooths it out.

I had to change the BPM on a piece of music from 120 to 128.  The iZotope sounded better than Audition to my ear.  I usually use Audition for humans but if I had some hardcore processing to do, I would go iZotope.

But for what you said you were doing, iZotope.  If you hear little stutters, turn on Vocoder.  I imagine Speech Characteristics would only be useful if you had a staccato section.

As far as the rest you might be able to glean more information from this, especially toward the end. iZotope Radius Time Stretch & Pitch Shift
