Downloaded Flash Player yet it still will not work.

I have downloaded and installed the latest flash player onto my brand new macbook air, yet it still will not allow me to use flash player. When i go to say watch a video on youtube it says that I do not have the latest version of flash player and will not allow me to watch videos because of this. I have tried all the trouble shooting pages and I still do not understand and cannot get it to work. Please please help, this is infuriating.

What version does it tell you that you have installed at http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html ?

It's okay it just randomly kicked in and started to work after hours. Thank you though!
