installing flash player for windows xp

I have a windows xp and it's not letting me downloading the updated version of the flashplayer. i have tried to go thru my contol panel under the adavanced tab to allow for updates, but it's stuck in the never update mode. i try to click  on allow to update and it doesn't let me click off
