That is correct.
ADE runs the semi-open Adobe DRM mechanism, supported by most ereaders and several ereader apps.
Kindle ony operates with Amazon's proprietry system, designed to lock people into buying books from Amazon.

thanks for clarifying. I actually just figured out how to transfer my library books from amazon help and it worked. They sure do make it complicated.
