1. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
522 edit Jan 3, 2014 10:46 AM (in response to 522 edit)A few more things
running OSx Mavericks
With GPU accelleration enabled:
when i navigate the playhead in the timeline to a clip with curves or lumetri on it, the whole system ceases to function and it takes over a minute to navigate to any other software (i.e. chrome). if the playhead is over a clip with no effects on it, Premiere and my system function normally. This includes clips that are back to back in the same timeline.
when trying to play a clip with curves or lumetri, the cpu spikes up to about 250%

2. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
petergaraway Jan 3, 2014 11:09 AM (in response to 522 edit)Hello,
I'm sorry for the trouble this is causing. We are aware of the performance issues that were introduced in version 7.2 with certain AMD GPU cards.
We're investigating the problem now.
I know this is not ideal but in the mean time here's a few workarounds:
- Revert back to 7.1
- Disable GPU acceleration when using those effects
Here's a list of effects that seem most problematic:
*Fast Color Corrector
*RGB Curves
*ProcAmp
*Edge Feather
*Lumetri Looks
These effects do not appear hinder the performance in my testing:
*All Blurs Effects
*Three Way Color
*Crop
*Garbage Mattes
*Levels
Again, I apologies the the inconvenience.
Best,
Peter Garaway

Same issue here. I've tried software only mode, but it still stutters a little too much. I have been using FCPX to get through my newer projects.... I hope for a fix soon... and perhaps a credit on my CC account... I had really been jamming on Pr CC for a while there. I really miss my workflow.. C'mon Adobe! You can do it!!

FusionKB Jan 5, 2014 7:05 PM (in response to SigFilms&Photo)is there an estimation on when a fix will be available? Also how can I downgrade my version. Will my 7.2 projects still open once I downgrade?

5. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
Mark Mapes Jan 5, 2014 10:55 PM (in response to FusionKB)Post #18 in this thread has instructions for rolling back: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5823746#5823746#5823746.
For Step 3, use these links to get to find the desired 7.x update:
- MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=98&platform=Macintosh
- WIN: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=98&platform=Windows
Projects saved in 7.2 should open in any 7.x version of PPRO.
(I have no knowledge of the ETA on an update with a resolution for this issue.)

6. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
jimmyhutch Jan 14, 2014 12:56 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)hi,
im having a similar problem with 7.2.1 and mavericks (my other identical mbp with mountain lion is working fine). in my situation, playback to an external monitor (using blackmagic mini monitor) started dropping frames after the mountain lion update. after reading this thread, i changed video rendering and playback to "software only", which fixed the problem, but compromises performance. it will be too much trouble to downgrade from mavericks, so i plan to wait for the premiere update. so far, adobe has been very good about these types of bug fixes, so i am optimistic.

petergaraway Jan 14, 2014 1:25 PM (in response to jimmyhutch)Hi Jimmy,
Can you tell me what GPU is in each of your MacBook Pros?
Also, in your experience 10.8.5 has no performance issues in 7.2.1?
Thanks,

8. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
jimmyhutch Jan 14, 2014 1:49 PM (in response to petergaraway)both laptops have NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics cards and
2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 processors.
the one running 10.8.5 seems to be working great- no known issues. on the other MBP, i didn't initially attribute the performance issues with mavericks, so i erased the hard drive and did a clean installation of everything (including mavericks) and the issue is still there.

9. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
Livingston2186 Jan 15, 2014 6:21 PM (in response to petergaraway)I'd like to echo this problem.
Same issue with RGB Curves crashing my system. It seems that when the effect is enabled, and not even modified, it causes the issue.
Here is my configuration
Mac Pro Mid-2012
Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1
10.8.5 all latest updates
ATI Radeon HD 5870
Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Open CL) - As you know, changing to software only resolves the problem.
Some Console Logs for good measure:
Multiple of these:
1/15/14 8:45:09.538 PM Adobe Premiere Pro CC[551]: invalid drawable
and
1/15/14 8:51:27.998 PM Adobe Premiere Pro CC[585]: [CL_INVALID_OPERATION] : OpenCL Error : Failed to retrieve device information! Invalid enumerated value!
The OS seems to be responding with:
1/15/14 8:45:49.886 PM WindowServer[113]: CGXDisableUpdate: UI updates were forcibly disabled by application "Adobe Premiere Pro CC" for over 1.00 seconds. Server has re-enabled them.
1/15/14 8:45:49.937 PM WindowServer[113]: reenable_update_for_connection: UI updates were finally reenabled by application "Adobe Premiere Pro CC" after 1.05 seconds (server forcibly re-enabled them after 1.00 seconds)
I am going to downgrade to 7.1 as suggested.
Thanks

FusionKB Jan 16, 2014 7:44 AM (in response to Livingston2186)I downgraded my Premiere to 7.1 using the steps from above and I am able to playback with the GPU Acceleration on; however, I now get the odd crashes during multicam editing.

13. Re: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration
Tom Frode Mar 19, 2014 9:47 PM (in response to barnapkins)I also wonder about it. I have just gotten a studentabbonement on Premiere Pro 7.2 and I experience that the playback is somewhat slow, I imported HDV clips for editing, 1080p 25fps. When I render the work area, it playbacks fine in the program monitor, but in the source monitor is still a bit saggy anyways. I know I don't have a brutal PC, it's having a ATI RADEON HD 6320 graphics card, 4 GB RAM and is a dual core AMD 450 APU 1,67 GHz x64 in it's processor-what-is. I saw someone mentioning old trouble from CS6 about AVCHD media and issues there here http://forums.adobe.com/message/5140547 suggesting a lossless other codec instead. Would that help any in Premiere Pro CC v.7.2.1.
