Multicam always screws up in Premiere Pro CC

    DavidROfficer6198 Community Member

Every so often when doing MultiCam sequences, the multiple camera previews to select go blank and the only way to proceed is to copy the entire timeline with edits and titles and then create a NEW multicam sequence from the orginal sequence, delete its contents and paste them with the copied timeline mentioned earlier.

This did not happen using CS6.

CC has not been an improvement over CS6 but a step backwards.

Exactly which version of PPro CC -- from the About box.

          Here are the possibilities:

          1. 7.0.0
          2. 7.0.1
          3. 7.1
          4. 7.2
          5. 7.2.1

You also haven't mentioned what external storage you are using. What's it's speed? esata? TB? USB 3.0?

Storage. OS runs from SSD. Video footage is on a Western Digital 2TB 7200 RPM hard drive. Media Cache is on same hard drive.

That won't be the problem with multicam, it's the software that's the problem. Once my subscription ends, i'm switching to a better video editor, one that works.

You don't mention the OS. I also fought a corrupt cache on the Windows side last year, it caused a pile of strange editing problems. I finally created a new user and migrated to it to save time.  That fixed the problem. You also didn't mention how much RAM you had. I found that I also had multiple problems with many multicam situations with only 8GBs. Once I upgraded to 16 all my issues vanished. The performance monitor clearly showed I was running out of RAM, especially when trying to render. To be more clear, I also assume your WD hard drive is eSata or at least USB 3.0. I experienced problems using FW800 on the Mac to do some editing. Seems as though FW 800 does not feed HD multicam streams fast enough on Pr. I think that FCP 7.0 did a better job of that. Not sure why.

Seems as though somethings up with Pr. I only ask because I have done a lot of multicam but not with the latest version of CC, and I've not been plagued with the same problems. But I've been working on W7. I just did a 3 cam multicam editing session over the weekend and did not encounter a problem. Am moving to Mac this week, and will be interested in seeing if it's something specific to the platform version.  While Pr is crossplatform, the issues each face is likely to be different. To be clear, I left Sony Vegas, have  used it for legacy jobs up to version 12 (the current version), and it has it's own unique set of problems.  Question though, I run both CS6 and CC on my Windows machine, and on my Mac laptop. Can't you continue to edit in CS6?

Hope this helps. All the best.

                  Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, 16GB ram

Why does everyone assume the hard drive is external? The 7200RPM Black WD hard drive is internal.

There are no editing issues with sequences that aren't multicam. There's also nothing wrong with the cache. It was deleted and PP created a new one which solved another PP issue.

I can edit in CS6 but it does NOT support Open CL which like CUDA, dramatically speeds up encoding.

Why are we paying for an inferior product?

I've had a similar issue where after working in a multicam, all my other sequences will only display back.  Restarting PP resolves the issue.  My guess would be a bug.

Sorry, posting is so unclear at times. There are a lot of assumptions to be made.  When I said "external" I meant that it was not the same drive that the OS was on, and obviously if your OS is on SSD, it's two drives in the same machine.  Contention with the OS is real performance problem, likely to show up with multicam streams more than single.  This would be true of any multicam editing NLE.

I've personally only had one cache issue, hasn't happened before or since. Many hours/days on the machine since the last cache problem.
