kristanlieb Jan 8, 2014 6:08 PM (in response to JSS1138)I'm using CC and I've installed the latest update. Mac OSX 10.7.5. Computer has 2.2 ghz intel core i7 and 8gb of ram. Yes, this has worked before. I've been using this machine to edit video for over a year and CC for a few months. No 3rd party codecs.

3. Re: extreme lag, frequent crashes
Mark Mapes Jan 8, 2014 11:27 PM (in response to kristanlieb)If you are getting crash reports, please post one--ideally just the part at the very top, up to where it starts showing the per-thread info, plus the thread info for the one that is reported in that top section as the Crashed Thread.
Exactly which version of PPro CC? There have been 5. If you're not sure, check the About box.
Did anything change on the system a couple of days ago, just before the problems started? Apply an update to PPro? Install a new graphics driver? ...
Do you have the same problems in a new, simple project or only with big, complex ones?
If you don't want to wait for help diagnosing the cause of these problems, here are three things you can try--one at a time, in this order:
- if the Renderer is set to use GPU acceleration, switch to Software-Only
- clear PPRO's app preferences--I recommend renaming the Profile-<username> folder under Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/7.0
- clear the cache folders here: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe

4. Re: extreme lag, frequent crashes
kristanlieb Jan 9, 2014 8:49 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)I updated a couple days ago which is when this started. I'm using version 7.2.1 (4). I only really have big complex projects because I edit wedding videos so I'm not sure if a simple one would work. It's all multiple cameras and audio channels. It's even lagging when I just open it and try to scroll or push any button at this point. If I see a crash report I will post it but usually it just freezes and I have to force quit.

5. Re: extreme lag, frequent crashes
Mark Mapes Jan 9, 2014 10:25 AM (in response to kristanlieb)With my question as to whether simple projects are affected, what I meant to suggest was that you create a simple project and perform some basic actions--some of the same steps that are dog-slow in your big projects. This is simply a troubleshooting step to determine whether the problems are endemic or restricted to certain projects/scenarios. Sorry, I should have been clearer.
Please post a screenshot of the Sequence Settings dialog. I'm wondering if you might be hitting a problem introduced by changes to the Preview File Format for some Editing Modes, as discussed in
Post #7 here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5930977#5930977.
A longer shot, but worth calling out, is that 7.2 introduced performance problems with some AMD graphics cards when OpenCL acceleration is enabled, as outlined by my colleague Peter in the post flagged as Correct in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5985267#5985267
Also, addition info as requested on the page Jim Simon linked to above could be helpful.

7. Re: extreme lag, frequent crashes
Mark Mapes Jan 9, 2014 10:59 AM (in response to kristanlieb)Thanks for the screenshot. That rules out the culprit I suspected--DSLR was not involved in the changes I had in mind.
Additional info: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

kristanlieb Jan 9, 2014 11:09 AM (in response to Mark Mapes)The questions on there that I haven't already answered are:
-source footage: I'm using DSLR footage, .mov files, MPEG movies.
-what other software am i running: safari, itunes, lastfm, stickies and mail.
-I'm not sure if I have
Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration
-so far the problem is only in playback. i haven't attempted to export anything since the problem started.
