    PP CS wont accept JPGs

    hal_ek Community Member

Recently I was starting a new project and wanted to import some jpg files from a external hard drive.

When I tried importing using the Media Browser, at first none of the jpg files were shown in the browser.

I then changed the browser setting from "All Supported Formats" to "All files". Then the files were shown but when I draged them to the project panel I got a window that said "File Format not supported".

I tried adjusting the image from 300dpi to 72, and the max dimension from 3000 to 1000px without effect.

None of these files have had any difficult viewing in the widows Photo Viewer, nor in Photoshop.

The only way I could import the was to open the jpg files in Photoshop and save as a PSD file.

Never had this problem before, Any advice?

While I have your attention; Recently on a Project where I was using the Multi- Camera Sequence I had the Monitor set to Multi Camera. When I attempted to position a title set on track V2 the monitor did not hold the position after movement. It would take several repositionings to get it where I wanted it.

Is there some type of work around to avoid this problem?

What is the source of the JPG files... ie, camera brand & model?

I have read about problems with "malformed" file headers causing problems, with the solution being to open the "bad" JPG in Photoshop and save to a new file

Make sure the jpegs are RGB (and not e.g. CMYK)

Thank you both for responding !

After sending out my cry for help last night, I updated my copy of PP.

Now everything seems right with the JPG world.

I am now in Version 7.2.1, but the update was painful. Trying the normal update twice I got a "Update Unsucessful" message. The solution was to uninstall and reinstall, about a 90 minute process.

It would be interesting to know if that was one of the reasons for the update, or if my copy was somehow corrupted. I am sure I have sucessfully used JPGs in the past.

BTW; none were CMYK but, most showed "sRGB" even some that I had resaved in PhotoShop after changing size or dpi.

              Thanks again!

DPI is of no relevance to Premiere. All that counts is the heigth and width. Dpi is for printing.

Glad you got things up and running again.
