Cannot play game Farmville

I keep getting small screen that states 'blocked plug-in' and cannot get into game. Tried to download upgrade Adobe but after the 3 steps I get the same message!  I am a complete novice as to the workings of computers and have no idea what a plug-in is or where I find it!!  Would appeciate any help please.
