1. Re: How to e-sign a PDF that has already been e-signed
George_Johnson Jan 13, 2014 1:35 PM (in response to caitdud)The document isn't e-signed, it's digitally signed. Reader cannot digitally sign or e-sign such a document.

caitdud Jan 13, 2014 3:32 PM (in response to George_Johnson)Thanks for clarifying. So Reader cannot digitally sign a document that has already been digitally signed?

3. Re: How to e-sign a PDF that has already been e-signed
George_Johnson Jan 13, 2014 4:25 PM (in response to caitdud)Sorry, I should have clarified, it can under certain circumstances. The document has to be Reader-enabled with Acrobat Pro or Livecycle Reader Extensions so that the digital signature usage right is included. Reader 11 will be able to add a digital signature field unless security settings prevent it by allowing only existing (blank) signatures fields to be signed (as opposed to placing new ones) and any existing signatures did not lock the document. When signing the last signature field in a document, the user will have the additional option of locking the document, which prevents further changes of any kind.
So if the document is Reader-enabled and there's an existing blank signature field that's available, Reader can digitally sign. Or if it's Reader-enabled and an existing signature didn't lock the document, Reader can digitally sign. Otherwise it can't.
