    Premiere Pro Suddenly Running slow

    ntreuter Community Member

Hey guys, I've been runing CS5.5 for a while now and it usually runs just fine and dandy. It tends to slow up a bit when adding things like effects and in particular noise reduction through plugins but all of a sudden the app itself has gotten horribly slow.

I have a Core i7 3770k, with 32gb RAM, a SSD Scratch drive, 7200rpm main drive for the files, a GTX570 GPU. All files are local to the machine. The files I am working with are MP4 24fps 1080p from my Canon DSLR.

This has worked fine for me for many projects over the past year so I'm baffled as to what is slowing it down. I've tried restarting the computer. Ensured Mercury is running. Checked my task manater and there are no runaway tasks (although premiere pro is only taking up 2gb evne though I've told it it can eat up to 25).

It's not just video playback. Clicking a clip takes a while. Resizing  a window draws ghost frames that last for a few seconds until they go away. Clicking anywhere on the timeline in either source monitor or the timeline just takes 5 - 10 seconds for a clip to show up. This occurs even if I have a single clip on a timeline.

Any other obvious things to check? This is brand-new behavior I'm seeing.

          Hi Ntreuter,

You can try the below steps to improve the performance

          1) Clean the media cache database by clicking on

              Edit>Preferences>Media and click on clean.

          2) Reset the preferences. Click on start icon and type %appdata% in the search box

and click on the roaming folder then double click on Adobe folder and then open the

Premiere pro folder and then rename the 5.5 folder to 5.5.old (make sure premiere pro

is closed while renaming the folder). The open premiere pro and check if it helps you.

          Thanks
