My PC is running XP and IE8.  When I run registry scans, Flash6.ocx shows up as an error.  None of my registry cleaners can get rid of this entry, and I can't manually delete it.  Here's the registry entries where Flash6.ocx resides:

  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}\InprocServer32

Can anyone help me?  It's driving me crazy!

Flash 6 was a long time ago. Windows XP wasn't even on SP1 yet. How that remained on your system so long is a mystery all to itself.

I often recommend FileAssassin from MalwareBytes to remove files that otherwise seem immovable.

Well, they make RegAssassin too https://www.malwarebytes.org/regassassin/ and it works the same as FileAssassin. If it can't remove it, it usually can't be removed.

Leave the registry alone!  "registry cleaners" are the best way to disable a perfectly working Windows system.
