I've been trying to install the newest version of adobe flash player (12) on my mac (OS X 10.6.8) through Safari (5.1.10) but every time I dowload it and click on it to install it, it opens in TextEdit so I can't do anything with it. How do I change the format that it downloads in so I can install it?

I made a PDF with detailed, illustrated instructions for a "clean install" with 10.6.8.

I tried that, but it didn't work. This is still what happens when I download it and double click on download to install it. It doesn't recognize the Flash Player Installer--it just opens in TextEdit

See the extension? ".dmg.mdlp"

Right click the link and select "Download Linked File As"...

BEFORE you save it, REMOVE the ".mdlp" from the end.

I don't know what mdlp is or WHY safari is adding it to your DMG downloads, but you may need to reset Safari (from the menu bar, Safari>Reset Safari) to remedy it.
