1. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
JohnEightclip Jan 28, 2014 9:38 AM (in response to JohnEightclip)Nothing Eh? I have found similar problems in the forum, but they do not obtain to my issue. I closed a new project last nihgt, and when I opened it some of my audio files were not working anymore.
When I play the piece, i can hear the audio that doesn't have a problem but when the problem audio shows up everything stops playing. When I look at the audio file the panner is set to "nan" when I reset it the audio plays again, but I have to re-do my entire mix on the piece.
What is this issue? I'm trying to get a new business I'm at into using the Adobe suite, but this issue is embarassing and has them questioning if Premiere is the right move.

2. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
allanedits Feb 4, 2014 7:10 AM (in response to JohnEightclip)Hi John,
Any solve on this? I've got the exact same problem at the moment. Yours is the only post after exhaustive searching that I've seen mention the same problem. Tearing my hair out. Even exporting as XML and creating a new project and converting the audio to aiff doesn't help. And when it seems sorted out, with audio on the timeline, I export it and the file has no audio.
The video was also doing a similar thing when I first opened the project. It was black until I match framed it and inserted it back on the timeline. Since then the video is fine but the audio comes and goes. Haven't shut down my computer for a couple of days because I'm scared it will happen again.
I'm on Mountain Lion, The footage was shot on a couple of DSLRs and a Canon C500. The audio was recorded with an external Tascam recorder.
I've Been working almost exclusively on Premiere for a year and a half now and never had an issue like this. I can only guess it has something to do with a faulty codec somewhere.
Any help?
Allan

stretchdavea Feb 5, 2014 5:07 AM (in response to allanedits)Hi
Had you used pluraeyes? I have been told that this was due to using pluraleye.
I have only a temp fix of going through all audio files and rplacing nan with 0.0. Also seemd to have switched "on" the key frame icon in bypass and volume.
I have then imported the offending sequnce into a fresh project. I am not hopefull that this will be a long term fix on this, as the bug seems to be "progressive" and seems to spread to other clips.
I guess the boffins at Adobe and Red Giant are trying to fix this, but I am getting increasingly frustrated by issues at every turn with premiere. I am in a good position to test out on both macbook pro AND Imac to rule out any machine issues.
What upsets me most is I have recommended switching to CC package for some of my colleagues. I now have to talk them through some of these issues. Hope they forgive me and I hope that someone is on the case.
I thought I had a fix this morning-exprt the project as XML. Open XML in text edt. REPLACE all instances of "nan" with "0.0". Nearly worked! YOu think a bit of code quick fix could be done for us-if that's all that causing it.
On to tech support yesterday-chat window-very slow. However- we exported to After FX. Then Re-exported the project from After FX. While the audio seemed to be fixed, there were ALL sorts of issues on the timeline. (graphical) which made the project all but unusable. Some areas of the timeline were black. Some clips were on the wrong channels. Unfortunately our conversation was cut short for some reason.
Would be interesting is this is happening when no pluraleyes connection. Let me know & good luck

4. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
allanedits Feb 5, 2014 5:24 AM (in response to stretchdavea)Yep, Pluraleyes was used. I'm not sure of the exact workflow as I picked up a hard drive from a client who had synched the video and audio and created a CS6 project file. I opened that in CC. It was fine for a couple of days then chaos ensued. I've reset the audio so many times but the problem just keeps coming back.
As per suggestions on this thread I have just exported from Premiere as XML, imported to FCP7, cleared audio filters from the timeline, exported as XML and imported it in a new project in Premiere. Seems OK so far... but I've had MANY 'solves' so far, only to be back in the same boat as soon as I restart Premiere. I'll let you know if this method works. I was just going to edit in FCP and be done with it but FCP 7 is also crashing on startup every time on my Mac Pro. I was able to use it on my Macbook Pro on which I haven't installed the very latest OSX update. Seems that is playing a hand in issues as well. I also reverted back to CC 7.0 from 7.2 to see if that helped. It didn't. I tried to copy all my codecs from my Macbook Pro which missed the latest Pro Apps update. Nope.
It's "nice" to see I'm not alone. Was going out of my mind for 2 days because I couldn't find a single user with the same issue. Just people asking if my media was offline!
Anyway. If the wheels fall off I'll let you know. Otherwise... it's a...err... fix, I guess.

5. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
stretchdavea Feb 5, 2014 5:33 AM (in response to allanedits)Thanks for all that. I tried the FCP route, but seemed to get no audio at all in fcp, but I will try again & remove all filters. Trouble is with these workarounds, is that you end up having to re jig other stuff.
I have seen a post this morning where the issue of the "nan" was resolved by reverting from 7.0.1 back to 7.0-that was a post from mid 2013. I was going to look into that, but reverting back to 7.0.0? Although someone else rolled back and it didn't work.
Oh, to be able to just "work"......

6. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
allanedits Feb 5, 2014 5:45 AM (in response to stretchdavea)In FCP I also had no audio until I removed filters.
OK, so update: Had it working in Premiere, exported with audio all fine. Closed. Reopened... Waveforms gone.
At least I can still see them in the source monitor. Before I wasn't even getting that.
The 'nan' thing does seem to have disappered since I went back to 7.0 but the entire audio issue is still present. Can't understand it. It even happens when I replace the media with a converted wav or aif. But it's just this project and just this media. Old projects are fine.
I'm downloading Mountain Lion 10.8 now. If I can get FCP working again on this machine, I'm done with Premiere (for this project at least). Can't waste anymore time!

7. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
stretchdavea Feb 5, 2014 6:25 AM (in response to allanedits)Thanks.
What gets me is that I have worked on other pluraleyes projects recently and seemed to be ok.
I am so far down the premiere route, its hard to turn back. As tempted as I am sometimes. I have this remnant of faith they can fix the issues & get this potentially wonderful piece of software engineering the stbility that it needs.
Maybe instead of throwing new "wow" inducing features....oput them on hold until the features we have work on a 100% stable platform.

8. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
JohnEightclip Feb 5, 2014 12:29 PM (in response to stretchdavea)Hey Guys,
I was SO pissed about this problem last week. (Still am) I turn around and everyone else has the issue as well. I really hope people are looking into it. For me I did a couple things and I haven't REALLY seen this issue since.
1st. I reverted to 7.0 and I haven't updated since.
2nd. I noticed what was the FIRST audio file to fail (it was dialog) and I converted this file from 41K to 48K and created a new file (if maybe it was a file issue). I've been converting ALL files to AIFF (very FCP7 of me).
When I reverted to 7.0. I did a COMPLETELY new project, took an export from my old project and imported it and then completely rebuilt the audio from scratch (that's right. This is B.S.)Exporting and importing XML's and EDL's and AAF's only made the problem spread from project to project.
I did notice that i was getting issues with a VARIETY of the audio effects in Premiere, and removing all effects usually cleared it up. So for the most part I think I'm done with MOST internal Premiere effects.
I'm hanging onto Premiere by a thread here. I've never had issues like this with FCP7, or Avid, and FCPX being used by the guy sitting next to me is looking nicer and nicer by the minute. (even with it's missing timecode and horrible lack of layers for sound design)
this is NOT resolved. Issue is huge. I hope you don't get it, but I hope it gets recognized by ADOBE. Due to this thing basically being contagious or "progressive" this is the WORST issue I've ever seen with a NLE.
That's right. EVER.

9. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
stretchdavea Feb 5, 2014 1:02 PM (in response to JohnEightclip)I wish I was angry. I am just weary. I am so used to things not working, I have forgotten what its like not to have to fix a project. If one issue goes away, there is always another.
I am also concerned about the progressive nature of this problem.
I am also very worried about all of the colleagues I got to sign up to CC. I am not an agent for Premiere and now I feel like I have led them somewhere they may regret.
I am already acting as their tech support.
The problem with this issue is the link with a 3rd party piece of software and the issue of whose fault is it anyway? We need CLEAR statments from both companies when issues like this arises and the knowlege that problems like this one are getting a reasonable look at. It may not be everyone's problem, but when it hits, it is a massive problem. MAybe you are right-it could be the worst, although in the last big documentary I cant keep track of all the issues I had.
Back to this issue-I would like to see if there is anyone out there that has this issue and HASNT used pluraleyes. There maybe some clue we are missing.Or maybe these programs are so complex that we will never see them issue free.

10. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
2drumstix Feb 5, 2014 1:45 PM (in response to stretchdavea)I'm having the same audio issue, and I’ve not used pluraleyes. Audio waveform disappears, when that happens it wreaks havoc on a multicam sequence causing very delayed and jerky playback, making editing near impossible and taking three times as long to edit a multicam sequence. Running a Render Audio command seems to help, until I go into a different sequence and back. Nothing earth shaking really, I use 3-4 AVCHD cameras and a GoPro. But cutting together clients projects while this issue decides to act up is costing me time. It’s a shame really, since that audio transition noise problem in the previous update - which cost me about two days of trouble shooting only to then find threads of other users reporting that problem - PrCC is not really a reliable product if you run a business.

11. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
allanedits Feb 5, 2014 3:27 PM (in response to 2drumstix)I never got the transition audio problem. So who knows what causes that!
All this isn't heartening as I have used Premiere for over a year and a half, and CC for about 6 months and had NO issues with it till now. For most of that time I was working in-house and the projects weren't very varied so now that I'm doing slightly different work with varied workflows, and a major problem arises, it's certainly disconcerting. And to hear others describe it as "buggy" and causing huges issues makes me wonder if I might have to head back to Apple afterall. Or even give FCPX a try!
Anyway, I've gone back to CS6 for this project and it seems OK at the moment but I have both installed so I spose I'll flit back and forth if there are issues. I'm also going to religiously use Time Machine from now on too so I can rollback on any update that seems problematic. It's a shame because I love some of the new CC features.

12. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
JohnEightclip Feb 7, 2014 12:44 PM (in response to allanedits)I'm a little confused as to why there hasn't been an Adobe comment on the matter. This is litterally the WORST technical issue I've EVER seen with a NLE. For ALL the audio to disappear from a project that has been sound designed, and 3 hour long interviews cut to exactly the way I want them is a HUGE problem. Not a small problem. This is HUGE
For someone to say PrCC is not a relaible product if you run a business is a BIG BIG problem. Photoshop and Illustrator are industry standards for Graphic Designers.
Adobe has created great products over the years. For someone to say that is a big big problem.
Please comment Adobe.

13. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
stretchdavea Feb 7, 2014 2:24 PM (in response to JohnEightclip)Understand your frustration. I am going to get some posts off to tech support. Maybe no one has seen this thread.
I doubt Adobe would want to ignore this issue or any issue. I have had some great help on other issues & I am sure we can get some help or at least be sure that the problem is being looked at.
In the meanwhile, my friend (a programmer) may have a look at some of the XMLs I have been expoting. See if he cant do some detective work.
At least now I know that the "nan" thread(which you can trace in an XML export) means "not a number".
We would only be guessing at why pluraleyes would be sending over an incorrect value in the "pan" field. Does pluraleyes even need a value in that field? What do I know!

14. Re: Audio Disappearing, No Waveform, No Audio
olsentropy Feb 11, 2014 8:58 AM (in response to JohnEightclip)I have had this problem, exactly as described here. Lost of audio, loss of waveform and the "nan" panning issue. It happened to me, however, and had nothing to do with PluralEyes. It happened once before to me and after reading threads like this one, it seems plural eyes was the culprit, so I stopped using it. It happened again in my current project, the exact same issue, and the project has not come into contact with PluralEyes. It's very intersting to me that when it happened to me some months ago, there were few posts about the issue. But now there seems to be an explosion of them. Has anyone by chance figured out a solution?
