Proper workflow to declip, normalize, rename and save 50 files

    lisaellensegal Community Member

I have 50 tracks that I extracted from  two client recorded CDS.   I need to do declip, normalize, rename and burn to CDS.  Here is how I am working:

      1. click on one file, run diagnostics, scan and repair
      2. do step one for each file
      3. batch all files and run normalize

Can I batch the declipper or do I have to do one file at a time?

How do I rename each file?  Right now they are CD Track 1 etc.  I need to rename them with the proper song.

Should I convert these to .wav files from mp3 and then create a CD list?

I renamed the files in hopes that the song titles would be on the CD, but instead all I get is "Track01.cda" etc.  Is this default behaviour no matter what the track is named?

Also, I am confused with this newer version of Encore (CS6) on how to save my project so that I can re-open later and modify.

      Thanks,

Okay, confusion here. Are you actually using Audition for this? And in what form are these files on CD? If they are CD audio, they will extract (rip) as 16-bit wav files in the first place, not MP3s. If you are using Audition, then you want them in the wav format anyway, because that's all that Audition can process. With MP3 files in Audition, they have to be decoded from their compressed format to wav before anything can happen to them. And then if you want to save them again as MP3s, you have to re-encode them, and by the time you've done this, you will inevitably end up with more quality loss.

As for what you can batch process in Audition - well, if you can save it as a favourite that works properly, then you should be able to batch-process it. So you have to open one file, record the processes that you want to carry out and save them as a favourite, and then apply this to files that you drag into the batch processor.

I'm not sure whether correctly named CD track markers will transfer as named tracks on a burner that supports this, but I think that they're supposed to. Alternatively, use something like Nero.

Yes, I am using Encore CS6 (and have been using a one version or another of Encore for a while).  I am a videographer/photographer, so audio is still "need to know" basis.  I extracted the files from a CD with no problem.  I did not realize that they are .wav when extracted, great.  I tried to batch as favorite with declipper, but it did not record that event, only normalize.  I am running the declpper one by one then batching to normalize and save.

I did find out how to change the names on the tracks when extracting into encore.  I will try another program to burn as it seems like that data is lost when encoded with Encore.

            Thanks

Well, if you're using Encore, you're on the wrong forum - and by the sound of it, using the wrong software as well...

My typing error, I meant Audition.  It would be pretty silly to try to declip, and normalize audio in Encore, huh    I have Master Collection, so sometimes the programs blur....

Having now tried it, I'm not convinced that you can run declip in a batch process at all, because it wouldn't let me record a favourite using it. I could be doing something wrong, but I doubt it - the declipper ran fine but the favourite recorder said that there wasn't anything I'd done that it could save as one. Which is a little strange, because I went through the entire process...

That's exactly what happened to me when I tried again.  So, I did each file individually, then batched the normalization and saving.  Thanks
