Okay, so like everyone else has said I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING that has been posted thus far.
I have a Mac running 10.8.5 and I can't get around this general installation error that pops up every time I'm at 50%. I do not want to download something so that I can download THIS. That's ridiculous. What can I do to have any flash player back on my computer??
I've uninstalled older version as advised (by downloading something of course), and it didn't work.
I've tried to run it through terminal
I've downloaded Firefox instead of Safari and it didn't make a difference
I've followed links to other installers that have been posted....
I'm at a loss. Please HELP.

Your troubles aren't coming from Flash Player.
You're missing a file that was made visible by the 10.8.5 update. Hundreds of thousands of Mac users all over the world deleted it, not knowing what it was. It causes this when it's missing.
Download this file: "Secrets" pereference pane
And this one: mach_kernel.zip
Install Secrets, and open your System Preferences.
Open the Secrets Preference Pane, and check "Show hidden files"
You'll need to press the "Quit this" button,
and restart Finder, by right clicking the Dock icon.
Then, place the mach_kernel.zip file in the Mac HD directory,
and unzip it. You should see a "faded" mach_kernel file appear.
Trash the zip file.
Reopen your System Preferences and uncheck "Show Hidden files".
Instead of quitting Finder and relaunching it, reboot your Mac.
Your Flash Player installer won't quit anymore.

You didn't do something right, because according to Apple, there is only one cause for the General Installation Error in 10.8.5 - a missing mach_kernel file.
Once it's replaced, the error goes away.
